Senior School

From the Head of Senior School
I have just finished reading a book by William McInnes and one of the characters talks about being given the gift of time. The example he uses is having to wait at a red traffic light; the character argues that being forced to pause for a few moments or minutes is like being given a gift and that we should make the most of it.
When I walked around to visit the new Values and Christian Service (VACS) groups for this term, I was reminded of this concept. Our Arts rotation is like a gift to many of our students who do not usually have much time to explore an aspect of the Arts. Once embedded in Senior School, many of our students are busy with study for their academic and certificate courses, many of them play sport for at least one team, and many have jobs. Many of our students seemed positively joyful to be creating something with lego or designing some wearable art.
The activities our students are involved in this term are:
- Battle of the Bands
- Chalk Drawing
- Debating
- Design a Board Game
- Designing boards for our Containers for Change bins
- Design a Picture Book
- Indigenous Art and Culture
- Lego
- Media
- Playschool
- School-based Service
- Wattle Eradication
- Wearable Art
Ask your student which activity they are enjoying this term.
At this week’s Assembly I was privileged to hand out an Endeavour Award from every Senior School class. We prepared 121 certificates which Mr Sawle happily signed. I was delighted to see the number of students who have caught their teachers’ eye for hard work, commitment and the drive to improve. Congratulations to all of our award recipients.
