Girls Intermediate SMR AFL Finals

On Thursday 21 July, our Intermediate Girls AFL team travelled to Lloyd Park in Langwarrin for the SMR finals. The girls were scheduled to play three games, before hopefully facing off in a final against the winner of pool B.

The day started well with a convincing win over Narre Warren, however a head knock to star player Remy J meant we would be without one of our best players for the rest of the day. We then faced off against Frankston in a challenge that, despite our best efforts, would prove too big for our girls. Frankston would not only keep us scoreless but managed to keep every team they played against on the day scoreless!

We finished the day with a much tighter contest against Dromana. Excellent efforts from Georgia A, Hannah D and Ruby B were not enough, as we went down to Dromana by 4 points. A massive congratulations to all girls who played on the day. The effort and teamwork they showed on the day was amazing, and all involved should be very proud of how they performed.

Game Set Match Excursion – Richmond Football Club

On Friday 22 July, the two Year 9/10 ‘Game, Set, Match’ classes caught the train to an excursion at Richmond Football Club. The morning began with a session at one of the Richmond Institute’s off-site gyms on Swan Street. The session involved students completing exercises that worked on their strength, core stability and cardiovascular fitness.

Once the session was complete, we walked to Punt Road Oval where students were taken on a tour of the Richmond Football Club’s facilities. We were taken through the gym, kitchen, and meeting rooms, before being taken to have a look at the ground and change rooms. Students were also given a presentation on the what the Richmond Institute involves, how they can be a part of it, and future job opportunities or careers that the institute may lead too. The day was enjoyable and highly beneficial for all students and has given those who may want to work in the sporting field another possible way to break into the field!

Our AFL Umpires

In April this year, students had the opportunity to complete the AFL Umpire School Academy - Basic Umpiring Course, onsite at Beaumaris Secondary College. It was fantastic to have another Beaumaris Secondary College umpiring contingent overseeing the Auskick games at the Collingwood vs Essendon match at the MCG on Sunday 24 July. They represented BSC beautifully!
