Our Techgirls!

Over the past 12 weeks, eight of our Year 10 students have been taking part in the 2022 Techgirls Competition. Every Tuesday and Thursday lunch, the girls have been working in teams to develop an app that aims to solve a problem in their community. Guided by a female mentor who currently works in the STEM field, they have learnt how to code, produce a business plan and develop a working app!

We wish the girls the best of luck with their entries (submitted last Friday) and congratulate them on their hard work – they have so much to be proud of! Take a look at their app demos and descriptions below!

Thrifty Food is an app designed to reduce food waste in Australia. In line with our mission, Thrifty Food has the following features:

  • Recipe-maker algorithm. Check off all the food you have at home, and we’ll suggest a recipe to make from the ingredients you have.
  • Recycling/Composting suggestions, e.g., boiling citrus peels for cleaning.
  • Growing suggestions e.g. how to grow an avocado from the pit.
