Last week's learning in our Budja class was OUT OF THIS WORLD! We had such a wonderful week of learning about space and the solar system. The children have been fascinated with this topic, discussing a lot of knowledge around planets and learning about rockets and the scientific concepts of thrust and flight.

We are intentionally allowing time for the children to develop their understanding around the concepts of space.

This week we are planning to look into the concepts of gravity, space travel and oxygen after the children had questions and thoughts around these last week.

The children have been engaging in some amazing group play this week, aerobics, gym exercises and lots of imaginary/ dramatic play have occurred. These moments are developing some incredible leadership, agency and communication skills which form the basis of strong and confident learners.

Marram:

The highlight of this week in Marram group was our Teddy Bear's Picnic Day! Each child brought in a favourite teddy, strengthening the link between home and kindergarten. It was an action-packed day, which started with children joining in with songs and stories about teddy bears, before taking turns to ice and decorate teddy bear biscuits. We also used collage materials to embellish felt teddy bears. We then enjoyed eating our biscuits at our picnic lunch, and each child also had the opportunity to try bears' supposedly favourite food - raw honey and honeycomb! We ended the day with a fascinating video about beekeeping and finding out where our honey comes from.

Wimbi and Dharug:

This week's weather a little chilly, but it didn't stop the children from using play to investigate and explore new ideas. They engaged in reciprocal relationships in many small group experiences to build on their social experiences. Throughout the experiences, the children developed skills to cooperate with others and negotiate roles and relationships in play episodes. In literacy, we supported the children's deeper understanding of sequence comprehension and phonology awareness by reading a book called "We are going on a bear hunt".  We continued recognising shapes, prepositions and numbers. The children were also encouraged to explore the tools in the art corner to increase their confidence in manipulating equipment and managing tools.
