Halo semuanya - hello everyone!

We made it to 100 Days of School! This is an amazing milestone for our students and could not be possible without the support of our amazing Foundation community. Thank you to all the teachers and families who were able to support our parade on Friday, this surpassed any expectations we had and made the day extremely special for our students. We are so grateful!

Last week we celebrated our 100 Days of School in Writing and Maths. We created books about ‘100 Year Old Me’ where students wrote about all the things they would do, like, eat and drink when they are 100 years old. As discussed at our three-way conferences, students have been working towards their own writing goal and measuring their progress. Setting goals not only helps students become aware of different writing skills, but also assists them to develop Growth Mindsets as they use persistence and hard work to see improvement over time. This week, we will be looking at adapting narratives as we begin to look at story writing.

In Maths, we looked at the number 100 through games, counting and charts. This week, Foundation students will become teachers as they show the 1/2 grades how to play ‘Race to 100’. This week, we will be using the Commonwealth Games to inspire our learning. We will sort athletes into different teams using our problem solving skills and also revisit our understanding of graphs to record and display data.

In Reading, students have been discussing parts of a story. We have begun unpacking problems, solutions, characters and settings. Keeping our Vinny Vocabulary character from the VCOP gang in mind, we will use adjectives to describe characters and settings. Last week also marked the beginning of our Sharing Time schedule. Students spoke to the class about their favourite toy. This week our Speaking and Listening task will be in the form of Talk Homework again. Please check Seesaw for this week's post and assist your child to post a voice comment response through your family account. We sincerely appreciate the time you put into these posts and students have loved hearing each other’s ideas!

In Wellbeing, we will continue to connect our Zones of Regulation with our Catastrophe Scales. Building emotional literacy and regulation is a big focus throughout our school and these tools are designed to assist students in responding to and resolving challenges that they may face. As we finalise the details of our catastrophe scales we will share them with families to support the shared language between home and school.

A final thank you for your time during our Three-Way Conference week and 100 Days of School celebrations, we are so lucky to be part of such a supportive community.

Your Foundation teaching team,

Brooke Henwood, Jessica Tossell and Ella Gasowski.

Pupil of the Week

FG: Aarya P -

For using your strengths of teamwork and zest when counting your collection of 100 items! You helped sort the items into groups and listened carefully to your partner. Congratulations, Aarya!

FH: Claire G –

You have been working hard to create writing pieces that entertain others by including adjectives and additional details. Vinny Vocabulary has been impressed with the way you have been using WOW Words consistently!! Fantastic effort Claire!

FJ: Deon M -

For working hard and demonstrating creativity during our writing sessions. You thought of imaginative ideas for something that you will have, something you will like and something you will eat when you are 100 years old. Well done Deon!
