Principal's Message

Term 3 Week 4 2022

Junior Assembly

The school captains and SRC presidents delivered a trivia styled presentation  to the Junior Assembly around the focus value for this term; Responsibility. Students were presented with scenarios in which they had to act responsibly. Well done to 1/2K for hosting and showing their incredible video also.

Senior School Athletics

What an amazing day it was for our senior students participating in the senior athletics carnival last Friday. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, anticipation and zest before the first events began and the day finished with smiles, joy and pride. Students rotated around the scheduled track and field events throughout the day, being exposed to opportunities to participate in a variety of races and events. The sportsmanship from all students was outstanding and the participation was exceptional for all events. Results are currently being collated with an announcement of the District Athletics Team being made this week.

A huge thank you and appreciation to Jacob, Ada and Zoe some of our sports leaders who supported Mrs Butterworth to set up in the morning and also to Mrs B for all her hard work leading up to and on the day.

A big thank you to the amazing parent volunteers who worked tirelessly for the day; Karry, Amy, Kathryn, Rick, Michael, Alicia and Lisa. Thank you to our wonderful teachers for supporting students with participation and making the day the success it was. The last thank you is for our incredible students that practised hard in P.E classes leading up to the day and gave their best in every event on the day.

Parent Helpers Course

It was wonderful to see so many parents at this week's Classroom Helpers program run by our Literacy and Numeracy Teacher, Tania Hosken. Parents were given an insight into Literacy and Numeracy in the Early Years classroom. The session also explained the role of the classroom helper and how parents may assist with classroom activities. I know parents were pleased to walk away with a range of strategies to assist their child at home.

What did the parents value about the course?

·         Was explained very well. Got new information and now feeling confident coming in as parent help.

·         The teacher was to the point and very experienced.

·         The opportunity to see all the tools available.

·         Good range of tips and how kids learn.

·         I so enjoyed today. Thank you so much.

·         It was knowledgeable.

·         Informative and interactive.

Happy Birthday Murphy

Our Therapy Dog Murphy turned two last Thursday and he enjoyed extra hugs, pats and treats. Murphy visits all classes and has a special role in supporting our students (and staff) at different times throughout the day. His specialty is ‘hanging out’ but he also enjoys being read to, going for a walk, chasing a ball and sleeping. You can see him in his new jacket for his birthday with a capital M and school colours. Mrs Louise Naismith (Murphy’s mum) also made sure he had had a trim in time for the festivities.

Foundation 100 Days of School Celebration

There were some very old Foundation students at school on Friday and some very young teachers in their school uniforms. It is always a privilege to visit the classes and add the 100th dot to their tallies. I am able to share my collection of 100 things and view the students. It was a lovely day and to be able to celebrate being able to hold all 100 days onsite after two years of moving in and out of remote learning was extra special. Huge shout out to all the Foundation families that attended the parade and made such an interesting array of lunches from 100 styled pancakes to personal messages of congratulations.

BYO iPad Portal Open

Our parent portal is now open again for iPad purchases through Edunet for 2023. We have worked with the company for a number of years with the advantages of ordering though the portal including insurance, payment options, a delivery date and accessories. Orders need to be placed by early October for a 12/12/2022 delivery. Every year we open the portal around this time to support our Year 2 families purchasing for their children in readiness for Year 3.

JUNIOR PRODUCTION - A TIME FOR MUSIC

Rehearsals are well under way for the Foundation and Year 1/2 Production, 'A Time for Music'.  The production will be performed on Tuesday 13th September at Crossways Church in Burwood.  The students are busy singing, dancing and acting in order to be ready for the big night.  A note will go home later this week regarding costume requirements.  More information about ticketing, DVD purchasing, performance times and more will be sent out closer to the event.

The Great Book Swap 2022

We are excited to announce that The Great Book Swap will be happening on Thursday 9th of September to coincide with Indigenous Literacy Day on Wednesday 8th of September. It is a powerful fundraiser that aims to raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation who are driven by the belief that ‘Reading Opens Doors’ and shapes a child’s literacy future. Your donations will be used to provide resources to organisations in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities such as schools, libraries and play groups. Students are asked to donate a pre-loved book and will then have the opportunity to purchase a pre-loved book on the day for a gold coin donation. A notice will be sent home this week with more information. Thank you for your support, we are looking forward to the big event!
