Humans of Kilvington
'Humans of Kilvington' will help you to get to know our staff. You might be surprised at some of their answers!
Our first guest is Mr Steve Bustin, Academic Dean of Physical Education and Health. Steve is pictured here with his dog, Paddy.
- When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? From the ages of 5 to 11, I wanted to be a car mechanic or professional soccer player! Since the age of 11, I wanted to be a PE teacher!
- What football team do you support (if any?) The mighty Dees, of course!
- You can travel to any destination in the world, where would you go? Either Antarctica to see penguins or the UK to see my parents.
- Funniest/most memorable moment at Kilvington? Funniest – Completing Tough Mudder with the PE staff – a great day with lots of mud, ice and laughs! Most memorable – Coaching the EISM Boys Senior Soccer team in 2018 to a Grand Final win. They were a great bunch of students that I loved coaching and helping.
- Share something about yourself that no one would ever guess. I delivered my own daughter at home when my wife went into labour very quickly!
- If you could swap your job with anyone else at Kilvington, who would it be? Anyone in the Maintenance Department.
- Your favourite thing about working at Kilvington? The Kilvington community – students, parents, and especially the staff.
Opportunity to host a Japanese student
Alan Clarke, International Student Coordinator
Last Wednesday, I had the privilege of welcoming Principal Hirano Koji from Seiryo High School, our sister school in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, accompanied by his daughter, Fuki.
Fuki will be at Kilvington on exchange from the middle of September until the middle of December.
Expressions of interest are sought from Kilvington families to host Fuki for between four to 13 weeks of her stay in Melbourne.
Families of students who are considering going on individual exchange to Japan in future years are especially encouraged to host as part of a reciprocal hosting arrangement as we anticipate the resumption of individual exchange to our Japanese sister schools in the coming years.
If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, please contact me at clarkea@kilvington.vic.edu.au.
New update - Kilvington Secondhand Uniform Shop (SHUS)
The Kilvington Secondhand Uniform Shop (SHUS) is a wonderful service that provides parents the opportunity to buy and sell quality and clean uniform items.
Recently, the SHUS has undergone some changes and now has a fully fitted-out space at the back of Dalton Hall, including two changing rooms so students can be sure of a perfect uniform fit.
The SHUS is next open on Saturday 27 August from 9.00 to 11.00am. We invite all families to come and see what bargains are available. There is a great range of stock to select from, and the helpful and friendly SHUS team can assist you to ensure you have the correct uniform requirements.
This will be the last SHUS opening for Term 3, so it's a great time to come and make sure you have everything you need for the transition to the summer uniform in Term 4.
Helpful tip
Bob Stewart is open on a Saturday until 12.30pm. Why not visit the SHUS first to buy what you need and save money, and then head over to the Bentleigh Store if needed?
Please note: The SHUS will NOT be accepting any items for consignment at this opening.
If you have any questions, please contact Bianca Lapins, Community Relations Officer, at lapinsb@kilvington.vic.edu.au. Thank you.
