Karate champion
Aarav Amara in Year 7 recently won gold at the 2022 Australian Karate Federation (AKF) National Championships held in Queensland.
He was one of the four competitors selected to represent Victoria in his age division.
It was a great experience for Aarav, as it was his first nationals. It exposed him to some wonderful camaraderie among his team mates and competitors from other states.
It also helped him to better identify his strengths and weaknesses, and he is determined to improve his performance in the next nationals. He is preparing to compete in international events next year.
Congratulations Aarav!
Victorian Short Course Championships
Annie Steele, Year 8, is now the Victorian Short Course Champion for 13-year-old girls in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle.
This competition saw swimmers from across Victoria compete across three days of competition (5 - 7 August). Annie raced both events in cracking times that currently have her ranked as a top competitor nationally in both events.
She came 2nd in the 200m freestyle (she lost to first place by 0.19 of a second) and 200m individual medley, and 3rd in the 100m breaststroke. She came top five in her other five events.
Annie is now under consideration for the Victorian swimming team (we will find out in the next couple of weeks whether she has made it).
Well done Annie!
