Students prepare for leadership positions at Kilvington
In our Senior School assembly last week, Year 11 students delivered their speeches for the roles of School Captains and Co-Captains. It was wonderful to hear them speak about the initiatives they would like to implement and what personal characteristics they possess that would make them great leaders.
Our Year 5 students, who are preparing their own leadership applications for Junior School roles, also attended the assembly. When I was chatting to them afterwards, many commented on how they would incorporate some of the features they had seen into their own speeches.
Throughout the School, we offer many opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills. This begins in the Junior School with opportunities such as being a buddy to students in ELC and Prep. It continues through to Year 12, where students participate in the Y Lead conference at the beginning of the year.
Developing leadership skills not only increases the students' self-confidence, but also helps them with other skills such as organisation, collaboration and problem-solving.
At Kilvington, we are fortunate to have outstanding role models among the current Junior and Senior School Captains. Students see leadership modelled through these official roles, but also through those students who see an opportunity to lead and do so.
I wish our Year 5 and Year 11 students all the very best as they proceed through this exciting stage of leadership development.
NAPLAN
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority has confirmed that NAPLAN results will be released to schools in the next few weeks. The results will be distributed to parents shortly thereafter.
This year, the tests were conducted online for the first time at Kilvington. They have been designed to automatically adapt to correct and incorrect responses, therefore providing a more precise understanding of student achievement.
By being able to use a laptop or an iPad, students can benefit from a range of accessibility functions, such as having questions read to them.
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
In early August, we submitted our Nationally Consistent Collection of Data. This is an annual collection of information about students with disabilities.
Throughout the year, we make reasonable adjustments for students, and this information is compiled and submitted. The data enables authorities and the government to better understand how they can support schools.
