Well done to all involved in last Friday's JS Concert! It was a pleasure to hear the wonderful music from the orchestra and choirs - well done to Ms Major Gough and the music staff who organised the evening.

Year 4 Bike Ed

The Year 4s certainly look excited to be on the bikes (especially with such nice weather) and practicing their skills, thanks to Mrs Clapp who led the group.

Year 4 Excursion to Polly Woodside

On Thursday 21 July, the Year 4 students enjoyed an amazing day out in the city. They travelled by bus to South Wharf and toured the Polly Woodside sail boat. We all learnt a lot about a sailor’s life in the 1800s. The students “toed the line” and “scrubbed the deck”. They also got to ring the bell and use a special code.

After the Polly Woodside tour, the students walked along the Yarra River and took in the sights. We were all so lucky that it was a beautiful day. The students played at the Birrarung Marr playground. They then walked up and down Hosier Lane and viewed the spectacular graffiti walls before heading back to school on the bus. Overall, it was a fantastic day, enjoyed by all!

100 Days of School!

Celebrations in the Foundation class last Friday as the students made the most of their 100th day of school. There were games, crafts and even activities with the year 2s during the afternoon. Well done to our brilliant Foundation students!

Year 3

It’s going to be a great term for Year 3.

We have two excursions, Ball Games, URStrong friendship program, Book Week and Kitchen/Garden – we are very busy!

Week One our cooks made Lemon Myrtle biscuits and Wattle seed hot chocolate to complement our Indigenous Studies unit. The gardeners made sure the scarecrows overseeing the veggie patch had new outfits.

Peter Drew style AUSSIE Posters

The Grade 6s have recently completed their own AUSSIE self-portrait poster in the style of contemporary Australian artist, Peter Drew. Students visited Drew’s AUSSIE poster at the NGV Australia last term, and were also very excited to find one of his posters pasted in Melbourne’s famous Hosier Lane during their Melbourne excursion.

In his work, Drew reflects upon Australia’s ‘White Australia Policy’ from 1901. Students learned about Drew’s work and the implications of this immigration policy at the time. The class really engaged with discussions about what it means to be an ‘Aussie’ in 2022, in our wonderful and vibrant multicultural county. Students used digital photography and Photoshop to create their posters. Well done Grade 6s – they are fantastic!
