Message from the Principal

James Penson

STATE SCHOOL SPECTACULAR

Yesterday, 13 of our wonderful singers travelled into the Melbourne Town Hall for their first State School Spectacular Rehearsal.  The day was filled will excitement and nerves as they headed into their first mass choir rehearsal. Once again, our students showed themselves to be respectful individuals who represented themselves and our school proudly. I am looking forward to seeing their final performance on the 10th September at John Cain Arena.

EMBEDDING INDIGENOUS PERSPECTIVES INTO OUR EVERYDAY

This term we are working to build on from our “Connecting to County” Curriculum Day in Term 2. Each year level is working to include indigenous perspectives in their everyday teaching and learning, even our Italian class!   Signoria Iebbiano has worked with our Year 3 and Year 4 students to read an Acknowledgement of Country in Italian.

English Translation

In the spirit of reconciliation, 'Greenhills Primary School' recognizes the Traditional Caretakers of the territory throughout Australia and their connection with land, water and communities. We pay homage to their Elders, past and present, and extend this respect today to all Aboriginal and Indigenous people of the Torres Strait Islands.

CURRICULUM DAY - SCIENCE FOCUS

WEDNESDAY 3rd AUGUST

On Wednesday the 3rd of August, teachers will participate in a Science Curriculum Day. This will be a valuable chance to unpack the Science curriculum and explore how to best teach the concepts and inquiry skills needed in each year level. Importantly, we will work across year levels to develop a sequence and steady progression of learning in each area of the Science curriculum.  This will help teachers to build on what students learnt previously. We will also use part of the day to start planning our Science unit for Term 4, including the purchasing of resources and equipment needed to fully immerse students into the world of science!

PREP TRANSITION 2023 - EXPERIENCE GREENHILLS

In August, we commence our Experience Greenhills for our 2023 Preps.  This is an opportunity for our future students to experience time within a classroom with our experienced Prep Teachers and wonderful Specialist teachers. Our “Experience Greenhills” sessions are very successful in preparing new Preps for the beginning of their school life.  The focus of these sessions are to make our students feel happy and comfortable about starting school.  We believe Participation in Experience Greenhills supports a positive start to school and promotes mental health and wellbeing.

Bookings will be open on Wednesday the 27th July. Further details will be sent to families via email with details on how to book prior to Wednesday.

FUEL FREE FRIDAY - RIDE OR WALK TO SCHOOL DAY - 29th JULY 2022

Our Sustainability Committee is encouraging our students to walk or ride to school on Friday 29th July.

We have several students who ride their bikes and scooters to school each day and this might be an opportunity for a few more students to give this a go! Last year we had over 150 students ride or scoot to school – let’s see if we can break this record in 2022.

Don’t forget your helmet and do a maintenance check on your bike before riding to school – safety first!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
