Celebration of the Arts - 'No Planet Bee'

We are beyond excited to be starting work on our 2022 Celebration of the Arts (COTA) - the first time we have been able to hold the event since 2019.

As so many of our families and students have joined the school in this time, we will have a large portion of our community who have never experienced the joys of a COTA.

The event is the high point of our school year and is an amazing community event. Students are already working hard in their weekly Visual Arts and Performing Arts lessons to develop and create artwork and performances around a theme. this year, we are delving into the area of sustainability with the title of COTA being'No Planet Bee'.

The work comes together on the evening (5pm on Thursday 3rd November) and the school becomes a combined art show, performance space and community party. All classes, orchestras and choirs perform to the audience, all students display their artwork and there is food and drink for sale.

The evening is always a great demonstration of the ability, confidence and creativity of our students and a lovely reminder of all of our school values. Please put the date into your diary now so you don't miss out.

Student-Free Day - Teacher Professional Practice Day

Later this term, our school will running a student-free day for the purposes of Teacher Professional Practice. This is an important day for our teaching staff to complete professional readings, perform assessments and planning and other aspects of their role. These days are an entitlement for teachers under the new schools agreement which has been in the media recently.

Due to staffing difficulties in the sector currently, the DET is advising that schools take these days as student-free days (as we did in term 2 of this year).

This means that families will need to make alternate childcare arrangements on these days. We expect that Team Kids will be able to provide a full-day program of care for families who require it.

We will advise when we intend to take our Term 3 day as soon as possible to provide maximum notice to parents.

Do you have a child starting at SKiPPS next year?

We are at the point where we are starting to make decisions around classes and staffing for next year. It is really helpful to get a good understanding of the number of Foundation enrolments as early as possible so we can employ teachers and start the planning for 2023.

If you have a younger child currently at kindergarten who will be starting school next year (or if you know someone who does) then please drop into the office to collect an enrolment pack. Alternatively, these can be found on our website at http://www.skipps.vic.edu.au/community/enrolments/
