JOSHUA SHAW'S YOUTH PARLIAMENT EXPERIENCE

So I attended the first camp in the April school holidays - this was the training camp and an opportunity to learn about speechwriting, advocacy, consultation and parliamentary procedure. This was where I was selected as Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change.

The next camp was held last school holidays, but in the intervening period as the Minister and alongside my committee, the Energy, Environment and Climate Change, I led to creation of a report - like a bill. Ours was into the Transition to Renewable Energy in NSW. This report contained research which led to recommendations for the NSW Government.

The 'Sitting Week' occurred during the July school holidays and consisted of four days of debating reports from all committee areas in NSW Parliament House, specifically the Legislative Council (Upper House). I spoke on the Environment Report, as well as several other reports and issues relevant to Wagga and rural NSW, such as mental health, industrial relations and young people and teacher shortages.

It was a wonderful experience to be able to represent Mater Dei, Wagga and especially the voices of young people throughout the region. I had a great time, met so many people and I'll never forget it!
