ST VINCENT DE PAUL WINTER APPEAL - THANK YOU!

I take the opportunity to offer an enormous thank you to our students and their families for the generous way you have supported the Vinnies Winter Warmth Appeal this year.

The Student Representative Council who lead and promoted this initiative were thrilled with the amount of donations received. We happily handed these over to Vinnies representatives as they were loaded into the truck to head off to the Care and Support Centre. It is wonderful to know that your donations will stay local and be distributed here in Wagga Wagga.

Thank you for the difference you have made to life of a homeless person or a family in need in our local community this year!

NAGLE EDUCATION OF AUSTRALIA - STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Over the last two years, our College has been preparing to host the Nagle Education Alliance of Australia’s Student Leadership Conference, on-site at Mater Dei. Initially scheduled for 2020, our plans were significantly delayed by COVID-19 and we are delighted to be proceeding in Week 5 this term. From 16 - 19 August, we will welcome 9 Presentation Heritage Schools from around Australia to join us for this experience and over 80 visitors to Mater Dei.

Our Conference theme ‘A’flame for the future’ will guide our young people into engagement,  dialogue and action as we celebrate the history and tradition of the Presentation story, undertake service to the community and explore the future, global dimension of charism.

Highlights will include; an opportunity to connect with local Wiradjuri land and culture, an exploration of the historic Mount Erin Heritage Centre, community engagement, service and creative expression, the Reflection Walk, a Conference Dinner and a Contemporary Liturgy.

To represent and lead our Conference delegates, four Year 10 students have been selected as Mater Dei College Ambassadors;  Emily Pike, Taylor Smyth, Tempey Nicholson and Emily Saeki. These four young ladies will attend the Conference and support and lead various activities throughout the week. I am sure they will be excellent role models and ambassadors of our student community.

MASS OF THANKSGIVING AND COMMISSIONING - WEDNESDAY 10 AUGUST

Dr Andrew Watson, Director of Catholic Education and The Most Reverend Mark Edwards (OMI), Bishop of Wagga Wagga hosted a Mass of Thanksgiving for the work of the Sisters of St Joseph, Christian Brothers, Marist Brothers and Patrician Brothers in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga. Mrs Thomas and I attended on Wednesday with two Year 11 Student Representatives; Ivan Sokolov and Elora Guirguis. We were grateful to have the opportunity to mark this special occasion with the Christian Brothers, who are represented in the dual charism of our College, along with the Presentation Sisters. They happily stood for a photo with our students, Mrs Thomas and Bishop Mark.
