Principal's message

Dear Parents/Carers,

Just like that we are half way through Term 3.

PREP ENROLMENTS 2023

We're thrilled to announce that our Jamo Juniors program will be commencing on the 31st August. This program assists with the transition for our Prep Students starting in 2023, and involves 5 sessions across Terms 3 and 4. Information will be sent to families who have already enrolled their children.

If you are yet to enrol your child and are thinking of sending them to Warrnambool Primary next year, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible so they can be a part of this wonderful program.

BOOK WEEK DRESS UP AND PARADE

Book week is fast approaching and to celebrate we will be having a week of engaging, interactive activities from Prep to Year 6 to share our love of reading. One of these activities will be a Dress Up Day and Parade on Tuesday 23rd August. Costumes can be as elaborate or minimal as you like.

ASSEMBLY CANCELLED - FRIDAY 12th AUGUST

Unfortunately due to ongoing illness and the weather not looking the best, tomorrow's assembly has been cancelled.

PUPIL FREE DAY Whole School Planning - Monday 12th September 2022

The Department of Education have advised schools to take their Professional Practice Days in Term 3 and 4 2022 as a whole school pupil free day to alleviate casual relief staffing shortages across the state. As a result School Council has approved Monday 12th September 2022 as a Pupil Free Day. No classes will be running on that day but ‘Their Care’ will be operating. Teachers will be undertaking whole school planning for Term 4 2022.

COVID/FLU ILLNESS

Our school community has been hard hit over the past few months with many student and staff absences across the entire school.

Eventually the tide will turn and we will be able to welcome all staff and students back to school as their health and the weather improves.

We thank all families for reporting their child’s illness to school. This is a vital step in mitigating the potential for further spread.

We are also limiting our whole school large indoor gatherings. Last Friday we held our assembly outdoors which meant that we could meet as a school but in a more ‘covid safe’ environment.

A friendly reminder:

When notified of a positive case within the school, if your child is not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, they can continue to attend school but you should monitor for symptoms.

Students who show symptoms of COVID-19 shouldn't attend school, test immediately and isolate until they receive a negative result.

It is recommended that parents monitor students for symptoms and use a rapid antigen test (RAT) when symptomatic.

If your child returns a positive RAT result:

* You must advise the school

* Your child must stay home for 7 days, and then only leave home once they feel well

Household contacts

Students who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are not required to quarantine. It is required that that household contacts undertake daily rapid antigen testing five times within the 7 days of exposure.

Students 8yo and above who are household contacts are required to wear face masks when indoors at school. This does not apply to students who have a valid exemption.

If your child returns a positive RAT result during this period, they must stay home for 7 days.

Masks

Thank-you for assisting us with the provision of masks for your children aged 8yo+ to be worn indoors. The Department are providing masks for students however you can also provide one from home.

HOOPTIME

During Term 3 students from Years 3-6 have the opportunity to participate in inter-school basketball - Hooptime. Warrnambool Primary have traditionally done very well but we always highlight teamwork, fair play and respect to coaches, umpires and opposition players. Today the Year 3/4 students participated and from all reports their conduct was exemplary. Thank you to Cherine Owen for organising the teams and to our sports captains, Jane McMeel and parents for assisting with the coaching.

Have a weekend everyone!
