Much to be grateful for!

This has been one very unusual year, of that we can all agree! Thankfully the borders to New South Wales opened in time for the holidays and I got to spend a lovely time looking after my nephew. I was so grateful for the many laughs, fun times reading (boy does he read a lot!), talking about the joys of Minecraft and challenges at the park. I felt so appreciative to get to spend that time with him again.

It also made me think about friends and family in other states and how many people in our community haven't been as fortunate as I. During my lifetime, I've certainly taken advantage of improvements in technology to stay connected with people on the other side of the planet and travelled to places that my ancestors had never even heard of. 2020 has definitely hit home the importance of taking care of ourselves, our families and thinking about people who we may not even know.

Somehow we've landed in the last nine weeks of the school year - we had an excellent Book Week Parade on Monday, broadcast live on Facebook! That was not something that we planned for in January, but great credit to Tyson and the rest of our hardworking team for ensuring that 'as normal as possible' service was resumed - we have much to be grateful for.

How great were D'Arcie - The Mad Hatter and Jed - The Riddler as our hosts?

They grasped the opportunity to host and demonstrated creative flair, resilience and confidence - even though one of them was unsure of 'performing' without a script! They excelled and were both magnificent, highlighting the collective effort and contribution that our team play in developing well rounded citizens. I was very proud so can only imagine how proud their families were.

This term will be another busy time for our staff, students and community. We will continue to try our utmost to ensure our students have high quality learning experiences, while we juggle class placement organisation for next year, Sports Day, arrange Graduation for our Year 7's and prepare for end of year reports with a smile on our faces.

In the next few weeks, almost all of our Torrens and Fisher students (over 200 children) will be attending camp - some for the first time, which is phenomenal. There were occasions throughout the year when we didn't think this would even be a possibility. Huge gratitude to both of these teams for the time taken to organise these experiences and the time they will spend away from their families in Week 5.

I still remember my first camp away from home at the age of 10 - which is several decades ago!

Five days without home comforts was definitely resilience building and on reflection was a wonderful experience that I know I'll never forget. We are very lucky at LNPS to have so many teachers who believe in school camps and that we have the commitment from our families to pay for these experiences. We know that the students will return with many stories to tell and memories that will last a lifetime!

This year has taught our students (as well as us!) that they are capable of embracing the challenges that life throws at them and that they will come out stronger on the other side.

Sports Day is coming soon!

Sports Day T-shirts still available!

Our new Lockleys North Primary School Sports Day T-shirts are still available from our uniform shop or online for $18.00. Much appreciation and thanks to Amy Byrnes for organising this in consultation with our uniform provider.

Our Year 5/6 students have started to assist our Team Captains with points tallying, as they have many additional roles in the next few weeks to get ready for Sports Day. We still have quite a few points to add to the above totals but it shows how our students have embraced a positive attitude to our school values - well done everyone!

Thanks for your time,

Mike
