Physical Vibe News

It is safe to say that all students are loving being back at school and doing Physical Vibe! We have enjoyed spending time outside playing and having fun. Whilst we are unable to run our whole school events we do have some exciting things to look forward to this term.

Junior School Physical Vibe Update

The start to the term has seen the students enjoying exploring different equipment such as hoops, bean bags, balls, scoops and skipping ropes. Watching them explore with their peers and showcase their skills has been fun. We have also continued to work on the fundamental movement skills jumping, skipping, hopping and side stepping through a game called “Clean the Yard”. The students' imaginations ran wild as we pretended bean bags and dots were rubbish that we had to clean up using different fundamental movement skills. Ask them what their grades quickest time was!

Middle School Physical Vibe Update

This term has seen the students loving being outdoors in the fresh air running around with their mates. We have played different cooperative games with a favourite being bean bag ‘Tic, Tac, Toe’ which required speed, teamwork and strategy. Grades have also been introduced to modified ‘Invasion Games’ in which attacking and defensive elements require them to work with their team to score. These mini games have also reinforced throwing, catching and striking skills.

Senior School Physical Vibe Update

Term 4 has seen the students complete a variety of fitness tests to assess stamina, agility and explosive power. We completed them in Term 1 and set goals which we had planned to reflect on in Term 2 but have had to wait until now. So many of the students achieved the goals that they had set for themselves which showed determination and persistence. It was great to see such progress given the constraints of remote learning and limited physical activities that were available to the children. Students have been exposed to a variety of modified ‘Invasion Games’ that demonstrate attacking and defensive skills along with working cooperatively with peers to engage in strategic play. I am super proud of the way they have conducted themselves on the return to school as like many of them I share the disappointment of missing out on so many sporting events in 2020.

Sporting Schools Australia Grant

We have been lucky enough to receive some funding through the Sporting Schools Australia Grants. This will be of benefit to the whole school as it means we can secure equipment and resources for A.F.L and Table Tennis. These programs will run during weekly Physical Vibe sessions and will commence once the equipment arrives.

Foundation to Grade 4 students will participate in the AFL schools program (which will be facilitated by myself as we are unable to have external coaches this year). Students will practise a variety of fundamental movement skills along with kicking, handballing and marking in a range of fun activities similar to those run at local Auskick clinics.

Grades 5 and 6 will participate in the Spinneroos Table Tennis Schools Program (facilitated by myself) which works on the continued development of motor skills, social skills and strategic play. Students will complete modified games and activities using resources/online programs supplied by Table Tennis Australia. The table tennis tables will also be used for lunchtime clubs and competitions. I wonder which students will challenge their teacher to a match!

I am looking forward to running these programs and would like to thank Sporting Schools Australia for the grant.
