Principal News

Tomorrow, Friday 30th October is a very special day indeed.  We are celebrating World Teacher's Day.  We cannot think of a more important year to pay homage to our amazing teachers.  They re-navigated the teaching platform in ways never imagined.  They connected with students and families in ways never thought possible.  They reinvented the definition of teaching and are now ensuring that we 'build back better'.  We salute our teachers (and 'helper' teachers) for always committing themselves with their heart and soul.

No more staggered starts or pick ups

From Wednesday 4th November, CSPS will revert back to a 9am school start and 3.30pm finish.  What do you need to know?

  • Kiss and Go will open from 8.45am in the morning and 3.30pm in the afternoon.
  • School gates will be opened at 8.45am for students walking, riding, scootering.  Any student who arrives or is dropped of before 8.45am will be reported to the Principal.
  • Any student who arrives late in the morning will require a phone call to the office.  All late arrivals will be reported to the Principal.
  • Any student remaining at Kiss and Go at 3.45pm will be taken to the office for pick up.  All late pick ups will be reported to the Principal.
  • Any student remaining at the office at 4pm, will be taken to Camp Australia (after hours program) by the Principal.

It is CRUCIAL that parents role model positive time management and that students are on time, ready to learn at 9am.

Year 6 camp cancellation

It is with great sadness that we are needing to cancel the Year 6 camp to Rumbug.  Such a decision has not been made lightly.

The Department of Education instructs that school camps and excursions in metropolitan Melbourne cannot resume at this time.

The Directions issued by the Chief Health Officer currently prevent students from moving out of metropolitan Melbourne and into regional Victoria for school camps.

Although there may be a lifting of the 25km travel limit and the metropolitan and regional border Sunday, November 8, this is not an automatic assurance that camps will be operational.

We will communicate with Year 6 families as to refund and/or credit options.

Year 6 Graduation Ceremony

As with many events this year, the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony will look a little bit different.

The Education Minister, Mr James Merlino stated in his 26th October press release: "Graduation ceremonies can commence this term allowing Year 6 students and school staff to gather to celebrate their final year at their school."

COVIDSafe measures must be in place and they can only be attended by students from the graduating year level and school staff but can be broadcast to families. This applies to schools in both metropolitan and regional areas".  So what do we know?

  • The graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, 11 December, 2020.
  • Only students and staff only can be present, no parents of families.
  • The ceremony will be streamed live.

We simply wanted to let you know that the Ceremony WILL be happening, but we are unsure of what it looks like (and with ongoing changes to restrictions it is tough to predict).

All other information such as location, start times etc is forthcoming and will be shared with you as soon as possible.

Thank you,

The Graduation Team

2020 Parent Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training, that is this year open to all of our CSPS families.

The survey is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents perception of school climate, student engagement and relationships with our parent community. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 20 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the fieldwork period from Monday, 12 October to Sunday, 13 November 2020.

All responses to the survey are anonymous.  All login details are available via Compass.

School Council continues to meet remotely to ensure a smooth running school, irrelevant of the circumstances.  Some notable areas discussed on Wednesday 28th October include:

  • Recruiting for parent members on School Council 2021 will commence Term 4.  If this is an area of interest, please contact Jodi Price, School Council President at jodip@cranbournesouth.vic.edu.au
  • New Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) goals.  All schools are required to develop three new post COVID goals in relation to (1) Learning catch-up and extension (2) Happy, active and healthy kids (3) Connected schools.  We are collaborating with staff and School Council as to what is deemed as high priority.
  • Capital Works tender update.  Tender selection has been slightly delayed due to COVID.  Works are scheduled to commence before the end of 2020.  Watch this space.
  • Permanent locking of Pearcedale gates. After much consideration and consultation, the gates at Pearcedale Road will be permanently closed. Entrance at Pearcedale Road can be made through direct communication with the office.
  • Bushfire Preparedness season has commenced with works relating to maintenance of fire hydrants, tree lobbing, vegetation pruning, removal and mulch.

Respectful Relationships

Respectful Relationships is a Department of Education initiative to support schools to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours.

The Respectful Relationship framework focuses on teaching  children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

CSPS has become part of the Respectful Relationships program.  This included our attendance at professional learning programs and training for our entire staff throughout Term 4.   The program is a whole-school approach using a framework to review existing procedures and culture to ensure that we model respectful relationships and gender equality practices across the entire school community.

Uniform change

As of 1st November, 2020, iron on school logos will no longer be available for purchase from the front the office.  We thank you for your support in this change (CSPS Uniform Policy will be ratified in November to reflect).

Welcome to the CSPS family

We would like to announce the arrival of Baby Emilia Hinton (Holly Hinton is one of our incredible Integration aides).  Emilia made her entrance into the world last night at 38weeks. She is a beautiful snuggly little girl and we cannot wait to meet her in person.
