Melody is hard at work!

A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LYMAN

Dear BAMS Families,

As the virus rages on, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. I, like many of you, am cautiously optimistic there is relief in the relatively near future.  Until we get there, the precautions and safety protocols remain as important as ever. We continue to operate a very safe school and the students and staff have been amazing as we work through this challenge.

I cannot think of a worse time to ask you to make a decision about the second semester. Receiving your response to the survey helps all of us plan and prepare. We have received over 200 responses so far, but we are missing some and if you have not completed the survey, I ask you to send it in ASAP.

We will be leaving soon for the holiday break. This is a long break under a normal calendar and with the week after the break being remote, some students will be out of the building for almost a month. I hope you can find ways to keep your children safe, but also find ways for them to get outside and enjoy the crisp air. I worry about our students who have been looking at screens for months now. It is hard for adults to keep teenagers off their screens. This is especially true when many adults are off to work and other responsibilities during the day. Kids are bored when they are home and they have a need and desire to socialize. There are countless resources to help you and I will leave a few of them here:

Thank you for your continued support of BAMS and for your active involvement in your child's/children's education.

Sincerely,

Keith Lyman- Principal

BAMS Leadership Council

Do you want to talk about what is happening at BAMS and learn more about parental opportunities? You don't need to be a formal member to join our meetings! We would love to see more parental/guardian participation in our group. We are meeting on a monthly basis via Zoom. Our meetings are scheduled for the 1st Tuesday of each month via Zoom. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Dec 1 at 5 PM. Please email Keith Lyman for the link at klyman@wsesdvt.org.

Recess and Clothing

We will continue to offer a recess for students during the lunch periods. It is essential for kids to bring proper clothing to go outside. In addition, classes are still going outside for breaks. Teenagers can be hard to convince that long sleeve shirts, hats, gloves, and coats are important when it's cold :-)

Everyone Eats!

The Everyone Eats team here in Brattleboro still has a lot of Everyone Eats meals to distribute and we would love it if folks could help us spread the word! As a reminder, the Everyone Eats! Brattleboro program operates Monday-Thursday, 4-6pm and anyone from Brattleboro, Putney, Guilford, Vernon or Dummerston can come to 80 Flat Street and request a restaurant prepared meal for themselves, for their family, and for their neighbors without any income eligibility or paperwork.

Winter Athletics

We are tentatively planning to offer limited winter sports this year, but recent increases of COVID cases in VT will drive final decision making and timelines. As more information becomes available, we will send it out.

Our Screening Crew!

Sheila Tkaczyk, Trish Coyne, Tom Daughton, CJ Pride, Sue Bos, Paula Starkweather, Traci Jacobs, Dan Bailey, Ben Robb, JJ Beck, and Meghan Robb have all worked very hard to screen our students as they enter the building each day. Behind the scenes, our nursing staff of Rebecca Olmstead, Susan Mello, Darcy Whitworth, and Linda Rinder have worked with students and families to be sure everyone is healthy and safe for school. Together, they are BAMS heroes!
