Remembrance Day – 11 November

At 11.00am, all students and staff at our school stood for a minute’s silence in memory of those Australians who have given their lives in past conflicts in order to safeguard the freedoms that those living in our country currently enjoy. Immediately following this, all Primary students participated in a special Remembrance Day ceremony. Our student prefects did a wonderful job running this assembly as student representatives laid floral wreaths and staff member and parent, Mr Matt Drury, played the Last Post and Rouse on the trumpet.

In the weeks leading up to this day, all Primary classes were given the opportunity to connect in a special way with several war veterans from our local community. After hearing stories from five World War Two veterans, each class wrote letters and created artworks that were presented in card form to these various veterans. Many valuable insights were gained by our students as a result of this meaningful project.

Kindergarten visits UOW Discovery Centre

On 13 November, our Kindergarten children set off on their very first school excursion to the University of Wollongong Discovery Centre.

The students had the opportunity to explore a wide range of stimulating exhibits with aptly named titles such as ‘Emergency! Emergency!’; ‘Antarctic Research Vessel’; ‘The Campsite’; ‘Bricks and Clicks’; ‘The Dig’; ‘Construction’, ‘Market Place’ and many more.

Everyone enjoyed having a lunch stop at Berry before arriving back at school where the bus driver complimented all children on their wonderful behaviour.

CRU Group talk about patience with guest speaker

Guest speaker, Kellie Thomson, presented a talk to Stages 2 and 3 students at CRU Group on Friday about patience.

Students discussed the need for patience in many areas of their lives and they participated in an activity called “The Waiting Game” in which groups had to take turns drawing and colouring-in a flower. Kellie also explored James 5:7:

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.

This verse reminded students to wait patiently for Jesus to return.

CRU Group then played a game “drip drip drop”, in which they sat in a circle waiting (rather patiently) for the person “in” to send a drip, drip of water down their back or the drop of a wet sponge on their head. This game was a favourite on a hot day!
