Year 3/4–Celebrating Learning

3/4 Mainstream

This week in our 3/4 classes, we have been designing and making our own maths board games. Playing maths games is a bit like the hidden veggies in your lasagne, it encourages strategic thinking, problem solving, and deepens our understanding of numbers. Plus, games are fun and maths should be fun!

“We designed our own maths board games using inspiration from other games we love. Everyone put their own spin on it. We did a quick draft, then used coloured paper, laminated the games, and then we modelled to the rest of the class how to play our game.” - Maya, 3/4B

“I thought they were really fun, particularly the one that said to act like a monkey. Some of the questions were really challenging, which was great too. That’s what makes a good maths game” - Kingston, 3/4B

“Making the board game was really fun. Mine and Lavarah’s game was super long! We had to work through some really hard sums.” - Angelina, 3/4B

“There were so many different types of board games, which shows everyone’s creativity. It was amazing to see everyone’s drawings and the effort they put in.” - Trina, 3/4B

Oh my goodness! A masterpiece! Everything is so perfect. I think the lines for your writing

worked really well here. I can really see how much planning and just plain old hard work you have put into this wonderful artistic presentation Teresa.  Thank-you so much!

This week 4S celebrated National Bird Week by becoming citizen scientists and counting birds! We participated in the National Bird Count 2020, by logging bird species and numbers at Henderson Oval the weather was glorious, as was our class spirit. Here are some of the ways that student’s mapped our findings.

We also made thank you posters for our much loved cleaners, Elmer & Abi, to celebrate National Cleaners Day.
