School Council

Kii TPS Community!

As we all welcome the return to face to face school for the children, (hallelujah!) it is time to thank and congratulate everyone involved in the long period of remote learning. (Sometimes seemingly endless!)

All TPS staff, from teachers, specialists, admin, ES, cleaners, instrumental teachers...everyone! Thank you for all your hard work all year, and going forward, in stressful times. If ever we learnt to value the role of a teacher and the school it is this year!

To TPS families a huge thank you! Remote learning has been a huge effort for parents, carers, and the students. Every home is different, but it's safe to say the road was bumpy and stressful. Hopefully there were times of joy amongst all that!

TPS Council and sub-committees are still working away at many things, though still via online communication only. Many things still have to be done, and many have to be adjusted to be Covid-19 safe. It is a very challenging year on TPS Council, but we are endeavouring to do our best.

Here's a snapshot of some of the things SC has been doing this last month:

Finance

  • Keeping the financial oversight going, during a time of very different revenue and expenditure needs.

Uniforms

  • developing a Covid-safe approach to online sales of TPS 'Deadly Threads' (NAIDOC t-shirts, Deadly Hoodies, Woollen Tunics)
  • setting up Covid-safe second-hand uniform sales
  • establishing an ethical supplier of NAIDOC t-shirts, whilst maintaining a reasonable price. Addressing Aboriginal Flag copyright issues, which will involve a minor redesign of some elements, but still mostly be the TPS student design we all love.

Communications

  • The Comms Team has been busy with new school brochures and community handbook in time for 2021 Foundation Transition. TPS is going paperless where possible, or minimising paper and printing where a hard copy is still valuable.

Enviro Team

  • Caring for the TPS chickens during restrictions, and building works. A fabulous sustained effort!
  • Investigating climate education programs for 2021
  • Investigating how we can run a Covid safe Working Bee when allowed

Social Team

  • This year's Mango Fundraiser will be raising money for our Kitchen Garden Classroom project. It's a big project, and fundraising has been limited this year, but the dream lives on.
  • Social Team also organised last term's 'Morning Tea for Culture' with over $1,000 raised by TPS to be donated to VACCA (Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency) Ngoon Godgin to everyone who participated  or made a donation.

Traffic management

  • Liaising with Darebin City Council in regards to traffic issues and Covid safety on the streets around TPS which has resulted in decals on the streets and maps of places to walk and stand.

OSHC and School Holiday Programs

  • TPS Council has oversight of these programs and their delivery.
  • Team Kids ran a successful School Holiday Program in September, during lockdown.
  • OSHC payments have a new streamlined online format.

Policies, grant applications, and more have been keeping us busy.

Social Committee News

Amazing response this year to our Mango Fundraiser this year! We have sold a record 278 trays which will result in approximately $2700 towards the Kitchen Garden.   We appreciate all the support as we have not been able to hold our usual fundraisers this year and this response has been overwhelming.  Ngoon Godgin - You guys are awesome!
