Inquiry
This term, students will be exploring the Inquiry question ‘How are we impacted by our environment?’ To start, students will delve into learning about the types of resources that exist on Earth, including natural and man-made resources. Next, links will be drawn towards exploring seasonal changes and weather in the environment, including comparing and contrasting the features of different seasons across the globe, as well as the impact of extreme weather. The knowledge students develop from these focusses will be transferred to reflecting upon the impact environmental factors can have on humans. Furthermore, investigating strategies and approaches humans have implemented to overcome the challenges associated with extreme weather.
As a part of the students’ inquiry learning, numerous learning opportunities encouraging critical and creative thinking will be implemented. For example, scientific experiments related to the learning focusses will allow students to develop a greater curiosity towards their surroundings, ask questions and investigate solutions and explanations to phenomena– just like scientists do! In turn, reflecting on the learning discoveries made.
What you can do to support your child at home:
- Encourage your child to tune into the environment around them. Ask questions such as ‘What can you see?’, ‘What can you hear?’, ‘What resources are within our surroundings?’
- If your child generates a scientific question, investigate the solution with them and give praise for them tapping into their curiosities
