Principal's Message

Term 4 Week 3

Now that's what school is supposed to be...

What a great week to start our return to onsite learning. I know there were lots of happy faces Monday and some very tried ones Friday. Any change in routine can have an impact so hopefully the weekend has provided everyone an opportunity to refresh for another week of learning and most importantly, catching up with friends.

Please keep an eye on our Dates page as we bring back some events of this term although they do look different to last year.

Footy Day - Thursday

In celebration of the AFL Grand Final we are holding a Footy dress up day on Thursday. See details in Important Information.

Questions to ask your children...

What questions do you ask your children after school? We know that parents have been helping, supporting and teaching children while they have been learning from home. Parents know more about school and what their child can do, than at any other time.

Here are five questions parents can ask their children, that will create opportunities for informative conversations -

1. What did you learn today?

2. How did you do?

3. What did you do if you didn't understand?

4. How can you improve your learning?

5. What are you most proud of?

Give it a try and see how you go!

Introducing Matt O'Hern

We have successfully appointed Matt O'Hern to the Acting Assistant Principal position to take over while Amanda Nelson is on Family Leave. Amanda and Matt are working together this week to support a smooth handover. I know Amanda has appreciated the good wishes extended to her from our amazing community and know that Matt will be welcomed too.

Environmental Team Message

Hello fellow members of the MPRPS community! Imogen from the Environmental Team here again! I hope you had some spare time to check out the search engine Ecosia that I mentioned in my last article. It takes roughly 45 searches to plant a tree. That means I am already halfway to planting a tree!

As we all know people aged 12 and over currently have to wear a mask when outside their home. But after we are finished with them, are we aware of where they are going?

Have you noticed any rubber gloves or masks on your walks? Have you noticed any rubber gloves or masks on your walks?

Here are some that I found on one of my walks! Masks are now like the new plastic bags, they litter the streets and just like plastic bags, can easily kill an animal in the ocean or on land. Not to mention how awful they look!

Unfortunately, they cannot be recycled due to hygiene issues, however there are many companies who have created masks that you can put in the washing machine and clean, ready to use again. I highly recommend purchasing them for you and your family.

Or as a fun activity you can even make your own! Click here for more information on making a mask: https://www.spotlightstores.com/projects/how-to-make-a-face-mask

It’s the little things that we do to help save the planet that matter. Together we can easily make a difference to the lives of other people and animals.

Assembly for Term 4

We have spent some time thinking through the best way to approach Assembly knowing that we cannot get together in large groups.

We have decided as part of our narrower focus this term on Literacy and Numeracy not to interrupt the day. There will also not be a video from myself, as I will visit classes across the term to give out awards.

So there will not be assembly for Term 4. Awards will be prepared by Ally each week and usually go in the TOTE on Wednesday night ready to be presented Thursday for Juniors and Friday’s for seniors.

I visited FD and FH last week to present the pupil of the week awards and it was a treat to see their smiling faces.

Parent Opinion Survey 2020

The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training (DET) that is conducted amongst all parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. A sample of parents is invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 12th October to Friday 13th November.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek. The survey results will be communicated to parents through annual reporting to School Council.
