Principal's Message

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term 3!

As we commence this next phase of Home Learning I must say that it feels a little different to our first experience. There appears to be increased anxiety and stress in the wider community, and understandably so. We  are facing health concerns with increased numbers contracting the virus, the introduction of tighter measures to combat the virus, loss of employment and little freedom to socialise face-to-face with our family and friends. This round of lock downs is more of a challenge!

This increased stress can have an impact on the family home and the interactions that take place within the family. Learning from home #2 may be more of a challenge for some.

I commend all our families for taking on this challenge a second time around, in particular those parents who are working from home.

Please know that the teachers and staff at COHR are only too happy to discuss with you any concerns you may have or offer help if  needed, with the home learning requirements.

In this current climate the safety and wellbeing of all in our community is paramount. Please continue to take care of yourselves and your family. Make sure you are being kind to yourself and to others, and don't forget to make sure that even though our role as carers for our families seems to have increased it is important to stop and take some time for ourselves to regenerate our own energies and focus on our own wellbeing.

A Message from Catholic Care

For those of us stuck in another six weeks of lock down, being camped up inside can exacerbate feelings of loneliness, anxiety and depression.

But there are ways we can alter the environment we live and work in to improve mental wellbeing during this difficult time.

Discover how you can improve or modify your surroundings for a positive impact on mental health below!

Archbishop's Letter

Attached is a letter from Archbishop Peter Comensoli in regards to the current lock down.

Flexischools

We assume now that all parents are using the Flexischools App for. As the set up is slightly different to FlexiBuzz we would ask that you contact the school should you require support in navigating this App.

Weekly Assemblies

This term we will continue with our Friday morning virtual assembly. These should take no longer than 20 minutes which allows families time to watch the assembly before the 9:30am Google Meets.

We will also be presenting a Monday morning assembly each week. This will be a shorter assembly of about 5-10 minutes.

Condolences

We keep the Athanasiou family (Dean 3/4D and Olga 1/2G) in our thoughts and prayers with the passing of their Grandmother.

Scholastic Book Orders

A Scholastic book club catalague was sent home in the students' school packs last week.  We are running the Scholastic book club through their online LOOP orders.  If you are interested in purchasing any books, please place your order by next Friday 31st July.  You can access Issue 5 of the virtual catalogue, or place an order, at the following link:  https://www.scholastic.com.au/book-club/book-club-parents/

We will notify you when your books can be collected.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Poppy Ruyg in Grade 6 who recently entered a competition run by Digital Technologies Hub. Poppy used Scratch (a visual programming language) to code her own arcade game. She was thrilled to receive an honourable mention and a special prize in the mail from the DT Hub.

Well done Poppy!
