From the Principal

The recruitment poster above was published throughout South Australia in 1916 to boost WWI enlistments numbers after the failed Gallipoli campaign.  ‘Coo-ee’ captures our hearts and imagination today.  It symbolises a call for help by fellow Australians in times of need. Right now, our South Australian families in the south east need our thoughts and consideration.

The South Australian Premier’s decision to close borders has forced our South Australian families to make the difficult decision to either bring home their children or leave them here at College, possibly until Christmas.  Seventeen students will remain and two more will make their decision in a fortnight.  We have sought advice from families about how we can best support them and one response was to create a list of local families who would be willing to host SA boarders in the case of an emergency (boarding house closure) or over the September/October holidays should an application for a permit for their return be refused. Hence I’m ‘Coo-eeing’ all our College community.  Our greatest strength is our connected community! If you feel you can host a boarder for a few days, a week or the fortnight, please contact Director of Boarding Andrew Monk at amonk@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au

Finally, I hope you enjoy the long weekend. Monday 3 August is a Pupil Free Day for students and teaching staff in lieu of Sheepvention.
