Year 2/3NH

In Religious Education, 2/3NH have been learning about forgiveness and reconciliation by looking at Bible stories and scripture.

This week we focussed on the story of Zacchaeus which the class enjoyed immensely. Zacchaeus was a selfish tax collector who took too much money from the townspeople. Jesus came to the town and wanted to meet with Zacchaeus and speak with him. Jesus told Zacchaeus how he was stealing money from the poor townspeople. Zacchaeus realised he was being greedy and selfish. After he apologised, he promised to pay back the poor townspeople four times what he had taken from them.

The Grade 2s and 3s looked closely at the four stages of reconciliation: admitting wrong, saying sorry, being forgiven and making up. After listening to the story and discussing it in depth, students identified how the character of Zacchaeus went through the four stages of reconciliation. Students illustrated a comic strip which depicted each stage of reconciliation. Students described what happened in each stage along with their illustrations.

Amy: “Zacchaeus didn't know that he was taking too much money.”

Anthony: “Zacchaeus said he was sorry to the townspeople and Jesus.”

Ryan: “Jesus forgave Zacchaeus.”

Charlie: “Zachhaeus promised to give four times the money back to the townspeople who he stole from.”
