Mandarin

Congratulations everyone for all your efforts and achievements during this special term in our learning journey.

It is the Dragon Boat festival on Thursday, 25th of June. In China, it is our tradition to eat Zongzi (粽子). Zongzi, also known as Zong or sticky rice dumplings to westerners, is a traditional food for the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. It is mainly made of glutinous rice with other fillings, wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves and cooked for a few hours by steaming or boiling. It is most common for Zongzi to be shaped as tetrahedrons, which are elongated cylinder or cone shapes.

You might be able to find some Zongzi in the Asian grocery stores this week! I would like to teach everyone how to make Zongzi, however, I am not an expert on making that. So I’ve decided to share some dumpling making techniques with everyone during this term break.

The attached link is the video I made on how to make dumplings. You can have a go at home and let me know how your dumplings taste when we come back in Term 3.

Enjoy a lovely term break!
