Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

It’s hard to believe that we are already at the halfway point of Term 3! A big thank you to all families for your continued support during Remote Learning and also to the families who completed the survey on how remote learning is going. Staff have spent time reading the results and have implemented some changes.

From next week there will be a new choice board posted on the Monday with optional activities that can be completed throughout the week. Please note that there is no obligation for any of these tasks to be completed and are just there as something extra if you wish.

Many of the 1/2 classes have now begun MiniMaths sessions, which involve small focused groups of students which are run straight after the morning check-in on Google Meet. This week we also trialled a social Google Meet on Friday; we hope that this provides students with another opportunity to connect with their peers.

This week in Maths we have focused on division and the relationship between multiplication and division through fact families. It was great to see students ‘sharing’ different objects and writing down the related division equation. Next week we will continue to focus on division and writing number stories to go with them.

In Reading students have investigated scripts and the different features of a script such as the stage directions. Students have practised reading scripts during Guided Reading sessions using expression to act out their character’s part. In Writing students have continued to plan their narrative by exploring different openers to make their writing more exciting. Next week students will write and edit their narrative and continue to explore scripts through Readers Theatre.

Students have continued to explore CyberSafety through videos about Hector and have been learning about sharing their personal information online. They have also continued to work through lessons on code.org focusing on writing algorithms. In Guided Inquiry students have explored different families. Next week they will begin writing questions to interview an older family member about their life growing up and exploring how life is different now. It would be great if you could start thinking about someone that your child could interview, perhaps a grandparent or an older family member.

Next week is STEM week and there are a number of exciting things happening across the school:

  • Spot the Maths Photo Competition - Submit by Wednesday August 19 at 5pm
  • Live Maths Challenge - Tuesday August 18 10.30am
  • Live chat with a wildlife scientist - Wednesday August 19 at 10.30am
  • A special STEM lesson on Seesaw

Please continue to look after the wellbeing of your family and continue to keep in contact with your class teachers with any questions, concerns or anything that we can help with.

Emma Honan, Aidan O’Connor, Emma Marsh, Kathy Wang, Emily Glen, Emily Kiefte, Simone Rock and Erin Bennetts.

Reminders

  • Students can use pen and paper to complete SeeSaw activities. To print a copy of the work from Seesaw - save Activity as draft - click view original → https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AkFLEhM7-DXV-ElAwHCQnaFSAjn4padc/view
  • Reading Eggs, Mathletics and Epic Books are additional items we are providing access to and can be used at any time by all students as desired (they are not mandatory).
  • It is normal for students' work to be messy or not perfect. At school, we talk about celebrating mistakes as they help challenge us to learn and grow.
  • Please keep your child's teacher informed about changes and challenges along the way so that we can work to support you and your child further.
