Spotlight on Feedback

Selemat datang semuanya (Welcome everyone)

Assembly

How are we going to top that!  Assemblies are Thanks to the Senior Choir and Mrs Andrews - how clever to sing in isolation and then come together as a choir. Awesome work! I was also joined by Ollie, School Captain who shared some tips on how to survive lock down.

100 Days of School

Foundation teachers certainly know how to celebrate and were not daunted by having to celebrate 10 days of school virtually. It was great to here the stories from last weeks activities. Well done Foundation students and families.

Kinder Parent/Teacher Interviews

Last week saw the Kinder teachers contact all parents/carers, following a written report that was emailed, to discuss students progress and goals for future learning.

Continuing to contact and work with parents around student learning is just as important during Remote Learning as when we are onsite.

Student Support Group Meetings

All funded students on the Program for Students with a Disability will meet with the classroom teacher and Amanda Nelson or I to discuss their progress and goals.

Parent Reps

On Thursday I met up with the Parent Reps via Zoom and we shared ideas on how to make and keep connections going with classes during this time. We discussed highlighting, up coming school events, social catch ups and our Community Support Representative Jess Sterritt Walker. Jess coordinates a band of parents who are able to provide extra support for families it might be to cook meals or do grocery shopping for a family in need. Jess is always looking for people who want to help out and be added to the volunteer list

Email: mprps.community@gmail.com

There was real interest in getting a virtual trivia night going, so if anyone has any ideas please get in contact with your Parent Rep. I thank all the Parent Reps for their attendance and our great discussions.

Years 3-6 Parent Zoom

We had an impressive attendance at our Years 3-6 Parent Zoom last Friday with over 65 parents online! The teachers created a short summary of feedback from student surveys and how they have changed and adapted to meet the needs of their students. There was also an opportunity to respond to questions from parents. We finished the session with Russell Lee, Middle Years Coordinator from Forest Hill College, discussing some ways that parents can support their children in preparation for secondary school. Some key messages that came from the session included:

  • Teachers have created small group Zoom sessions which include targeted lessons as well as opportunities to join for general questions and social catch ups
  • The afternoon Zoom sessions were optional with a focus on connecting students. Smaller groups will be considered if there is larger number of students participating
  • Engagement levels of students varied. Some parents find their child completing minimum requirements. Teachers are aware of this and will try to encourage a higher standard of work through feedback and sharing of student work. If parents are concerned about this let their class teacher know
  • Parents were keen to connect with each other
  • Some ways parents can support their Grade 6 child with their transition to secondary school is to talk to their child about what excites them about starting high school, explore extra curricular opportunities through the school website, take note of questions they have as there will be opportunities for students to ask.

Ultimately our aim was to continue fostering the connections with our parent community and work together to support each other and get the best outcomes for our students. Please continue to connect with the school and keep your questions coming in! All the staff at MPRPS are thrilled to work in such a supportive school community.

Year 6 to 7 Transition 2021

On Wednesday the 19th August parents will be notified of their Year 7 Placement 2021 via email through Sentral. For some families not receiving their 1st, sometimes 2nd and 3rd preferences there is a rationale in the letter provided by the secondary schools. If you would like to appeal this decision, you may write to the principal of your preferred school, outlining your rationale for appeal.

A written appeal against a Year 7 Placement decision must be lodged with your preferred secondary school by Monday 31 August 2020 using the Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Placement Appeal form. Your preferred secondary school will advise you of the outcome of your appeal, in writing, by Friday 11 September 2020.

If this appeal is unsuccessful, a further written appeal can be lodged in writing to the relevant Department of Education and Training Regional Director by Friday 25 September 2020.

All placement appeals are considered based on the priority order of placement, and in exceptional circumstances, compassionate grounds on a case-by-case basis.

Information from secondary schools around the transition process will be provided shortly. If you have any queries please contact Amanda Nelson or your nominated secondary school.

Years 1/2 Parent Zoom

On Friday the 21st August we will be hosting a Zoom Q and A session for parents of Years 1/2 students (Foundation Zoom will be the following week). The teachers will be presenting some information about the recent student surveys they have conducted as well as respond to the parent survey.

There will then be an opportunity to ask the teachers any questions you may have in regards to Remote Learning. We believe this will be a great opportunity to connect with our parent community and support each other through this time. In order to make the most of the 15-20min session please record any questions using the Google Form link so they can be answered.
