Fishy tale from the Art Room

Art Room Guest

There's a fishy addition to the Art Department - the colourful new swimmer and class member pictured above. As art teacher Ms Marsh explains: "I was looking for a way of loosening the kids’ drawing and painting action, a way to make them more ‘fluid’ and confident in their mark-making. So this week I decided to give them a material they’ve never used before: Yupo paper. Using pigmented inks, the key is in teaching them how to both control and allow for chance to create satisfying blends, shapes and lines. To further encourage this looser form of drawing, I purchased a new class member for the Art Room – a Betta (Fighting Fish) named after the artist Takashi Murakami. Over the course of a week, students have observed how the fish moves and how the ink moves across the Yupo paper, gradually learning how to find a balance between representation and fluidity.

Year 10 Immunisations

WA Health recommends that all Year 10 students in Western Australia receive the meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) vaccine. This vaccine protects against meningococcal disease, specifically 4 serogroups of meningococcal bacteria: A, C, W and Y.

The Year 10 school-based immunisation program was introduced in 2018 to defend against a moderate recent increase in the number of meningococcal infection cases caused by these strains in Western Australia.

It is anticipated that immunising Year 10 students will reduce transmission of the bacteria to others and help prevent infections within the larger community.

At St Norbert College the Year 10 students will receive their immunisation envelopes on Wednesday 1 July 2020 and will take them home for parents to sign and return. Please ensure they are returned by Friday 24 July

Students can wear their full College Tracksuit with their House Shirt on the day. Please ensure this includes the correct shoes as described in the College Diary.
