Music Industry course songmakers

On Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 June, the Certificate II and III Music Industry students were lucky enough to participate in a song writing workshop run by the inspiring Nat Ripepi. Monday’s session was all about brainstorming and planning, where we learnt some skills for lyric writing, song structure and how to connect with the audience. This first session inspired us to create our own music (in small groups) and we were guided through this often-challenging task of song writing. By the end of Monday, we were ready to roll with four fully composed songs between the groups.

Tuesday saw us practicing our song to achieve greater clarity and polish. We then spend the rest of the day taking turns to record our own songs in our makeshift recording studio. This opportunity allowed for us to have a true taste of the music industry and the challenges associated with it but also to discover our own musical passions. We were also able to connect with people who have similar interests, thus allowing us to share ideas and expanding our knowledge of music in a safe and creative environment. This experience was incredible and provided us with the chance to learn more about writing and recording our own music.

We are all so grateful to Nat Ripepi, Mr Beins and Mrs Freind for allowing us to have this amazing opportunity!
