Vegie patch planted

This week Norbert News asked Miss Pisconeri and the Climate Canons about their latest project – the creation of a vegetable patch behind the Food Room.

Norbert News: How many seedlings are the Climate Canons planting?

Climate Canons: We’ve got hundreds of seedlings! But we hope to plant around 80 today.

What variety of vegetables do you have and where did the seedlings come from?

The seedlings came from donations from our call out last year of the Woolworths Discovery Garden Seedlings. We’ve got a variety of seedlings ranging from vegetables like carrots and onions, herbs like oregano and thyme and flowers like pansies and violas.

What is the aim of the vegie patch?

To give back to the environment because we take so much from it (Sophie Griffiths, Year 9) and to give back to our school community (Audrey Lee, Year 10)

Who will tend it and how often?

The Climate Canons will be keeping an eye on our seedlings once Term 3 starts. During extended homeroom, every fortnight we will tend to weeds and ensure they have the right amount of water.

NN imagines you are hoping for lots of rain in the holidays . . .

Absolutely, for us and the farmers!
