Minimum Standards

On Wednesday 22nd July and Thursday 23rd July year 10 students completed the Minimum Standards Practise tests in Reading, Numeracy and Writing.

The Minimum Standards testing is a requirement by NESA for students to receive their Higher School Certificate and offers students with a level of attainment credential in Reading, Writing and Numeracy.

I was very pleased with the attitude and effort of all our students throughout the two days of testing, with Marian achieving some very good results.

All year 10 students will complete the actual tests on the following dates and times:

Monday 27th July

Period 1 – Reading (45 minutes)

Period 3 – Numeracy (45 minutes)

Tuesday 28th July

Period 3 – Writing (45 minutes)

Students have been guided by their English teachers with a scaffold and work samples to help them with the Writing Test on Tuesday. It is important that all students are present on these days with their laptop fully charged.

Any students requiring Special provisions will be provided with this provision and separate supervision for the actual tests.

I will be providing another opportunity for any student who has not yet met the standard in any of the three tests or was absent on either of the two days to re-sit the test(s) in term 4.

Year 10 into Year 11 Subject Selections

I will be meeting with all year 10 students on Monday 10th August to inform them of the process and information needed to meet NESA and/or ATAR requirements in stage 6.

A parent/student Information Night scheduled for Tuesday 11th August will need to be cancelled due to COVID 19 restrictions. We are currently constructing a web page with video information on:

NESA/ATAR requirements and the selection process

            Extension, VET and Major Works

            Careers and differing pathways available

            Individual course information

In the past, we have also offered the opportunity for students, with their parent or guardian, to be invited to sit down with a senior member of staff to discuss their individual pathway and/or subject selections. This date was scheduled for Monday 17th August.

If this is not possible, due to COVID restrictions, Zoom interviews will be organised instead on this date. Bookings will be similar to those for parent/teacher interviews.

I urge all students and parents to keep these dates in mind when planning in term 3. It is important that all students are correctly informed when making decisions about the correct course selection/pathway for them in stage 6.
