Students participated in some wonderful NAIDOC activities including the smoking ceremony led by Elder; Uncle Alex, and a whole-school Assembly where our Indigenous students shared their culture with us.

Year 4 Living Histories Incursion – The First Fleet

Our students shared some of their thoughts on the recent Year 4 Living Histories incursion, which focused on The First Fleet.

“I think living in England in 1700s would be so harsh, when you were a boy you couldn’t walk around at night.”  Nate

“We got to look and learn about some of the unfair women’s rights, like on the boats male convicts got more food than the woman.” India

“Yesterday Year 4 went to the library to listen to a Living History Presentation. At first they showed us how people lived in the 1700s.” Angela

“They used to eat gruel which is an old savoury porridge seasoned with salt, yuk!” Ada

“I felt really lucky that I didn’t live back in those days! A lot of the things back then didn’t make sense to me.” Quinton

“It made me feel excited because they had so much cool stuff from 150 years ago and we got to try things out.” Lainey

Pyjama Day Ashburn House Fundraiser

On Friday 21 July, Ashburn House will be raising funds for The Pyjama Foundation. Every hour in Australia, two vulnerable children find themselves entering the foster care system, seeking stability amidst their tumultuous lives. The Love of Learning Program empowers young people in foster care to develop literacy and numeracy skills. ALL students and staff, Pre-Prep to Year 12, are encouraged to wear their pyjamas to school and bring a gold coin donation to support this vital service.

Year 6 Parent/Student Canberra Information Session and Q&A

As per communication emailed home on 1 July, a Parent/Student Canberra Information Session will be held on Monday 24 July, 3:15pm – 4:30pm in the Year 6 classroom.

Following the information session, our Principal,  Dr Andrew Cousins and Deputy Principal - Head of Primary, Mrs Audrey Fellowes, will also be available to discuss any questions families may have about our Secondary School offering and the transition into Year 7. This will occur between 4:30pm and 5:00pm.

Grandparents' Day

After many years, the staff are so happy to be hosting Grandparents’ Day once more on Friday 11 August. Our grandparents will be enjoying a morning tea, classroom visit and a special musical performance. Due to numbers, this event is specifically for our wonderful grandparents; however, if a grandparent is unable to attend, a special friend is more than welcome.

Please see the invitation below with the link to book (for catering purposes, please make sure you tick the box for Pre-Prep or Prep to Year 6). We look forward to seeing you there!
