School of Possibilities
"Term 3 is certainly flying by! Our learning programs are in full swing and students have settled really well into a new timetable and new units of work.
Please note there has been significant changes to our Leadership across the college, and each school now has two Leaders.
I would like to welcome Meredith Lia, who will be co-leading the School of Possibilities with me. Meredith takes on the role of School of Possibilities - Community and Wellbeing. I am very excited to have Meredith on board. Meredith started at St Anne's this semester in the Inclusive Education Leader - Policies and Procedures role. She is currently transitioning into her new role. Meredith has many years of experience as an educator and school leader. Her prior experience includes working in the student wellbeing field as well as spending many years leading a senior secondary careers team. Her knowledge of VCE and senior secondary programs as well as her experience in the student wellbeing space will be an asset to our school. Welcome Meredith!
While I will work closely with Meredith, my role changes slightly and my title will be School of Possibilities Leader- Teaching and Learning. The focus of my role is the teaching and learning programs within the school. My work includes leading the development of learning programs and opportunities for our students as well as assessment and reporting practices. I will continue to work to develop a rigorous senior secondary curriculum as our school grows that is founded on current research on best teaching practice and remains true to our school philosophy and inquiry pedagogy.
Students in Year 10 and 11 are reminded that subject selections for 2024 are now overdue. Students select their preferences using an online system called "Web Preferences". Students will have received an email from a no-reply address to select their subjects. Any students who are unsure of how to select their subjects are encouraged to see myself or their Pastoral Group Leader. We are asking all students to complete this task as soon as possible and pass their signed receipt to me.

New Bookshelf made by our VCE-VM Students
VCE-VM students Vernal, Dante, Antonio and Makai have spent some time recently creating bookshelves for the School of Wonder. The students were guided by our amazing grounds and maintenance staff, Michael and John. Michael reports that the students were a great help and a pleasure to work with. We are certainly impressed with the final product! Well done Dante, Antonio, Vernal and Makai.
Year 11 VM Excursion to Rumbalara Cooperation in Mooroopna
In Personal Development Skills we have been studying “What is community?” Different groups in the community, cultural influence and indigenous Australians are some of the key knowledge areas. Today I had the incredible experience of escorting my year 11 class to Rumbalara. I was amazed by this group of young people and how positive and adaptable they were on our excursion. Initially we were dropped at the Corporate business rather than the cooperation at the flats. The bus had long gone, so the quickest route was to walk through the bush. The students took it in their stride, not a complaint and in fact one student led the way and directed us to our destination. Sometimes when things don’t go to plan it creates unexpected opportunities. I just wanted to acknowledge how lucky our students are to have Jacqui Avard as a support person in our class. Jacqui is a wonderful educator who is so passionate, enthusiastic and willing to support the students in all aspects of their work - thank you so much Jacqui! Here are some of the students' comments on what we did on Thursday 3rd August.
Meredith Lia - SOP Leader, Community and Wellbeing
Below are some of the students comments on what we did on Thursday 3rd August.
“We watched a slideshow to learn about the history of Rumbalara. Aunty Cheryl showed us some possum skins and told us that young children receive a skin for each birthday and then place significant events on the pelt for the year.”
“My favourite part of going to Rumbalara was when we got to make the necklaces with the gum nuts and emu feathers because it was fun and interesting".
“We went to Rumbalara, Mooroopna and I enjoyed the tour we had. We did a smoke ceremony and Welcome to Country. Aunty Cheryl showed us some of her items, including possum skin, snake skin, turtle shell and some miscellaneous items. She showed us a slideshow of the history of Rumbalara."
VCE Unit 2 Industry & Enterprise
Students have been studying the concept of enterprising behaviour as an essential component of workplace success. Given the rapid speed of technological change and innovation in the workplace of 2023, workers must be flexible and adaptable so as to keep on developing new enterprise skill sets. On Friday July 21 the class was split into 3 groups to participate in a tower building teamwork activity. The teams had to make up a name for their business group: list the objectives (goals); prepare an action plan (strategies); and a way to measure the success of their business (performance indicators). Groups had 30 minutes to produce the Highest Paper Tower with 3 challenges to:
The students commented:
What did you enjoy about this activity?
Charlie Ratcliffe, Ava Bathman and Liliana Cirillo:
“What we enjoyed about this activity was the competition and challenging aspects as well as being able to use an array of skills such as teamwork and creativity.”
What work-related skills did you use in this activity?
Dante Mori, Eknoor Mavi, Jed Cassidy:
“Collaboration was one of the most major work-related skills I used in this activity since it was a group activity, and each person was assigned a certain role for us to succeed in this activity, so collaboration was extremely important. Problem-solving was also another very vital skill since we kept encountering certain problems which needed a bit of communication and problems solving skills to get through."
What enterprising behaviour was shown by the group members?
Cooper Walker and Xavier Wheaton:
“Critical thinking to solve the problems that appeared throughout the activity, as well as being able to know when to switch gears and formulate new ideas.”
Subject dates for VCE assessment tasks are as accurate as possible. Please note that dates can be subject to change based on school review. Please find the link here to the live document with assessment dates for each subject:

The VCE Exams Navigator 2023 should be read by all students presenting for 2023 VCE external assessments. It contains important information about what you need to know for VCE external assessments. A hard copy was distributed to all students present in class on Friday July 21st by the subject teachers of: VCE Unit 3&4 Psychology, Business Management, and Vet Engineering Studies. If a student was away, please see the VCE Coordinator for a hard copy. We advise students to retain the VCE Exams Navigator 2023 until they obtain their VCE results.
