Years 5 & 6 Girls’ Soccer Gala

Two Essex Heights teams (one Year 5 and one Year 6) had the opportunity to participate in a soccer tournament. Both teams played really well and managed to win their pools. Sadly the Year 5 team lost their semi-final however, the Year 6 team won. This led them to play in the grand final which they sadly lost leaving them the runners up in the Mulgrave District competition.

Due to the Year 6 team being runners up they had the opportunity to play in the next stage, which was the Monash Waverley Division competition. Again the girls finished first in their pool with one draw and two wins. This took them to the semi finals which resulted in a draw, leading to a penalty shoot out. Unfortunately, they lost the shoot out 1-0. Most importantly they had a really fun time and are excited to have finished third overall out of eight teams.

Thanks to Miss Boles for coaching us and the parents who came to support us on the day.

District Athletics Day

76 students from Years 3 to 6 competed at the Duncan Mackinnon Reserve Athletics Track in Murrumbeena on Monday 31 July. The children trained well for all their events; shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump, high jump, 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m and circular relay.

They proudly represented Essex Heights and supported their team mates throughout the day. All students should be very proud of their efforts and achievements. Congratulations to those children who received ribbons for placing 1st to 3rd. If they placed in the top two places they will represent the Mulgrave District at the Monash Waverley Division event in Term 4.

Sporting events like these wouldn’t run without the valuable help from our school community. A huge thanks to the following parents:  Lin Li, Helen Ntostas and John Colley for their assistance with the events, and Pia Ahmet for assisting with the students.

Thank you to Mrs Lim for marshalling the students for their events, Miss Boles and Miss Kemp for helping with the running of the day.

Congratulations to all the students.

It was a terrific day!

We were all very excited for the District Athletics and we tried our best. It was a fun day with lots of events. Many students received ribbons for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. We came 4th overall which was great. Thanks to all the parent volunteers and the teachers who helped and cheered for us on the day.

I competed in triple jump, hurdles, 100m and relay. It was a fun experience to compete against other schools. My favourite event was triple jump because I beat my personal best and achieved 2nd place which qualifies me for Division. Thanks to my Mum for helping with shot put and supporting me throughout the day.
