Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

At SFS, our school expectations are:

Respect

Responsibility and

Kindness

This week we have focused on what are our expectations on behaviour when using our new multipurpose hall. This lovely new space combines learning space, hallways and offices and toilets. The children discussed in their weekly PBL lesson what the expected behaviours are for using the new hall.

There was so much excitement last Friday when the raffles were drawn as they had an opportunity to try and shoot a goal in the basketball ring. Here are some of our lucky PBL raffle winners from last week.

Twilight Community Market

Make sure you have the date marked in your calendar, Thursday 9th November. The market runs from 5 pm to 8 pm. We have a variety of stalls and food trucks booked for the event. We are so excited and the count down has begun. 16 weeks to go!!!!

BeYou Student Surveys

Last term our students in Years 4 to 6 completed an online survey to get an indication of our students mental health and wellbeing. Be You is the national mental health in education initiative delivered by Beyond Blue, in collaboration with Early Childhood Australia and headspace.

Be You supports educators schools to develop a positive, inclusive and resilient learning community where every child, young person, educator and family can achieve their best possible mental health.

Be You Surveys empower all members of your learning community – educators, families, young people and children – to share their voice about mental health and wellbeing. Information gathered can help highlight strengths to build on and areas for improvement within your learning community.

The overall feedback from our students is very positive, we very high schools on average. The 2 areas we would like to work with our students on are Early Support and Responding Together

These areas did not score badly just lower than the other areas. Early Support looks at how to recognise behaviours which might indicate early signs of mental health issues, how to talk to about these issues, and how to provide appropriate and timely support. Responding together looks at empowering children to act effectively to limit the impact of critical incidents. They also aim to encourage positive, timely and appropriate interventions in a normal, familiar setting.

We have decided to select a small focus group of students from the Senior and Junior school to be a part of an Action Team lead by me that might come up with ways they can promote and get the message about the importance of Early support and ways to respond when something happens that makes them feel unhappy or unsafe. Stay tuned for some of the children’s ideas.

Lego Club

The children enjoyed Lego club this week. They worked in small groups on a challenge build. This week’s challenge was to build a lego house.
