Principal's Report

Maintaining routines

Having a set routine is really helpful to get us organised. You generally know what things are going to happen in a day, so having a routine can help reduce our stress around the set things, giving us space to deal with those things that crop up unexpectedly. Less stress can help with better mental health, more time to relax and less anxiety.

As our Year 12 students head into their final weeks of their schooling, this can be a very stressful time for them. Often routines start to slip – going to bed later, sleeping in longer and so on. This is not the time to let the routines drop and is probably the most important time to stick to them. Getting enough quality sleep, eating well and regularly, making time to have rest breaks in between the study; these simple routines are so important to keep brains functioning well and thinking clearly.

This is also the time to be ramping up efforts, not reducing them; with final assessments coming up, practice exams at the end of term and then the end of year exams starting early in Term 4. It’s important to remember that stress is a normal part of life, and often actually helps us to do better in situations. But too much stress can impact our health and that is why maintaining our routines when things are getting too stressful can be so beneficial.

NAPLAN results

Students in Year 7 and 9 completed their NAPLAN tests towards the end of Term 1 this year. The results have finally arrived at school and were sent home to families through the post at the end of last week.

Overall, our results were fairly positive, with many students achieving the expected proficiency standards in both literacy and numeracy.

With a new way of measuring results this year, the reports will look different and provide slightly different information than in the past, but still show how your child is progressing against the standards for their year level.

Notice of School Council Meeting

After having to delay our normal meeting by a week, School Council will be meeting on Wednesday 9th at 6pm in Room 9. Visitors are welcome.

Parent Opinion Survey

The parent opinion survey opens today and is open until Friday 8th September. Please keep an eye on your Compass emails, as the details on how to complete the survey with the necessary login details will be out later today.

All families are invited to complete the survey and we ask that you take the time to complete the survey, so we can get a wide range of responses from all of our families. Let’s aim for a better response rate than 50%! Only one member in a family needs to complete the survey.
