Around Our School

Green Team News

Friday, 28th July was School Tree Planting Day.

There was plenty of planting happening at St Brendan’s on this day. 200 tubes of various indigenous shrubs and grasses needed to be planted in the new Indigenous Garden and fortunately, the sun was shining for us as we got to work.

The Year 6 students worked with their Foundation buddies to plant the tube stock. As the Foundation students progress through their primary school years, they will be able to observe the growth and maturity of the garden, knowing they helped to create it. Some of the Green Team also got involved, planting several tubes which will help to create our beautiful bushy indigenous garden in the future.

Here are some photos of the Year six students working with their buddies.

Pumpkin Consumption

The day had arrived for our class pumpkins to be chopped, baked and consumed. Sadly, some pumpkins didn’t make it because they had gone mouldy and it was necessary to put them in our compost.

6 large pumpkins were ripe and ready. It was a big job chopping them up and preparing them for baking but definitely worth the effort!

Each class was presented with a tray of cooked, warm pumpkin. It was surprising how many children had never even tried pumpkin before. Other children couldn’t wait to eat it as it was their “favourite”. Overall, the pumpkin received excellent feedback and many students were surprised by how good it tasted. Here are some photos of the pumpkins being prepared and students enjoying the flavour sensation.
