Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Service

On Saturday 12 August, I attended a Vietnam War Memorial Service to commemorate the service of those who served in the Vietnam War. It was an enlightening experience, as there were many things spoken about that I had not heard before. Some of these included how when the veterans came back to Australia, they were not welcomed back as other veterans had been. There were also some people showing us what the soldiers potentially had to go through, such as tunnels with openings only as big as a small picture frame. The service really brought to light many of the things these brave soldiers had to go through and the effects it had on their lives after they had come home.

Reconciliation Action Plan

On Thursday 3 August the first meeting of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Party was held. This meeting marks the beginning of creating Eltham High School’s RAP and continuing our work towards Reconciliation in our school community. During the meeting, group members had an opportunity to reflect on current positioning and potential areas for focus as we move forward. Thank you to all members of our school community (staff, students and parents) who have joined our Working Party; if you are interested in joining this group, please email Nadia Devlin at dev@elthamhs.vic.edu.au Our next meeting is Wednesday, August 23. During this time we will begin drafting our Vision for Reconciliation.
