Prep News

The Prep students have been enjoying their first full weeks together with some exciting and fun-filled events. Our Preps have been very lucky to meet some very important community members, Police Officers and Nurses, who taught us all about their role and how they keep us safe. The Preps asked some great questions to get to know how they help others around them. They loved being able to see the police car and nurse equipment. A big thank you to the Police Officers and Nurses who came to visit our school.

We are so proud of the resilience and persistence the Preps have shown in their very first term at school. All the teachers are very proud of you. We are looking forward to learning even more together in Term 2.

We wish you all a happy and fun end of term.

Level 1/2 News

Level 1/2 have been very busy lately learning lots of new and interesting things and participating in exciting activities.

We have been making connections to the texts we read and practising strategies to solve unfamiliar words in our reading. We have also been writing recounts, some unusual diary entries and letters.

In Maths, we have played battleships, created treasure maps and are now beginning to learn the different strategies we can use to add numbers quickly and accurately.

We have been amazed by the growth of some of our bean plants. It's very exciting to see the changes occurring in our plants each day! Last week we finished our Taekwondo lessons which were so much fun! We  would like to thank Miss Minton for organising these lessons for us.

We wish all families an enjoyable last week of term.

Level 3/4 News

The Level 3/4 students have been continuing to work hard to complete some amazing work this term with students completing portfolio tasks for reading, writing and maths.

In Maths students really enjoyed learning all about measuring by creating their own metre rulers and measuring a range of objects inside and outside of the classroom.  Students in Reading have become experts at using their schema and evidence in the text to make inferences in a range of written and visual texts. In Writing students read the book ‘If I Was Prime Minister’ by Beck Feiner and Robin Feiner and wrote a convincing persuasive piece on what they would do if they were Prime Minister of Australia. What would you do if you were the Prime Minister of Australia?

We proudly had a number of 3/4 students participating in a mathematics competition last Thursday. Congratulations to all of our mathematicians who did their personal best on some very challenging maths problems. We also had a small group of students participating in the GATEWAYS science program.

The 3/4 students celebrated Harmony Day by learning about cultural diversity and decorating a colourful hand for a great looking display. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians and celebrates cultural diversity.

Thank you for all your support this term.

Level 5/6 News

The Level 5/6 students been busy bees as we approach our last week of Term. They have been working hard to complete portfolio tasks for Reading, Writing, Maths and Inquiry and have been applying their Personal Best at all times.

In Reading, Level 5/6 students have been understanding the purpose of a book review, identifying important elements of a book review (including the book's title and author, strengths and weaknesses, one's personal opinion of the book and a brief summary). They will develop their own book reviews on a book of personal choice for their Reading Learning Task for their portfolio.

In Writing, Level 5/6 students have been completing persuasive letters to their parents/carers about rules in place that they wish to change at home as part of their Term 1 Learning Task for their portfolio. In addition to this, they have been researching current affairs, considering arguments for and against, forming an opinion on the topic and developing a persuasive writing piece.

In Maths, Level 5/6 have been reflecting upon addition, subtraction, multiplication and division strategies that have been learnt and applied throughout Term 1. They have begun developing a digital Kahoot! Quiz with a partner as part of their Maths Learning Task for their portfolio. This quiz encompasses questions involving the four operations (both worded and equation formatting) and is accompanied by multiple choice answers (one of which is correct). Students will engage in playing another pair's Kahoot! Quiz and share their Learning Task with their peers.

In Inquiry, students have began developing their 'My Identity T-Shirt' designs in preparation for completing their 'published' version on a white t-shirt that they bring into school. Thank you to those families who have already sent in a white t-shirt with their child/ren. Just a reminder that they should be in by the end of this week, Monday latest, so we can start our 'published' designs. If students cannot bring in a white t-shirt we will generate an A3 t-shirt template for them to use in place.

We would like to congratulate those Level 5/6 students who competed in the Maths competition last Thursday. We are very proud of you and know you would have applied your Personal Best to solve a selection of challenging problems.

Our Level 5/6 Summer Sports Round Robin Day was a big success last Friday and all of Level 5/6 had so much fun! It was brilliant to see such wonderful sportsmanship role modeled by our students. Congratulations to all of our Level 5/6 students for their efforts!

Thank you for all of your support throughout Term 1. We hope you have a restful holiday and Happy Easter!

STEAM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Arts/Maths

Heath and Liam (our two ICT Captains) have been working away over the last three weeks, building a 3D Printer for the school.

Slowly the parts boxes are getting smaller and the printer is getting bigger.

Things are coming together really well and we hope to be printing some student creations early in Term 2.
