Dear Families
Thank you for those who came to our children’s Mass, there we celebrated our Reconciliation students receiving their booklets and Fr John Paul's 10th Anniversary of his Ordination. It was so wonderful to see a full church and so many people coming over for morning tea afterwards.
Our children have made a great start to the Reconciliation Steps in Faith Program at home with their families, they are reflecting on their everyday choices God gives them. They are excited and ready to begin this next step in their faith.
We look forward to meeting all together for our Reconciliation Liturgy on Wednesday the 2nd of June at 6.30 pm.
PPR – Promoting Positive Relationships! What a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's day.
Each class held their own reflection and liturgies for Mum, we are hoping to have all Mums able to join us in 2022 for even bigger and more special celebrations! We look forward to being able to return to our Church for Mass and be able to invite our loved ones.
Thanks, Jessie Simpson.
ASCENSION OF THE LORD
“The Lord Jesus was taken into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God.”
Year B | Sunday 16 May | white
Preparing to hear God's word
With God to help us, wonderful things are possible. Jesus said, 'Go and preach the good news to everyone'.
How could you preach the good news?
Perhaps you could share with people instead of keeping things for yourself.
Maybe you could laugh and smile, rather than complaining.
The Gospel Story
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells his disciples to spread the message that anyone who believes in him will be able to do wonderful things.
Jesus was taken back up to heaven and sat at the right side of God.
The disciples preached everywhere and Jesus was with them.
Through the power of Jesus, the disciples were able to work miracles.
The Gospel
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark 16:15-20
The Lord Jesus was taken into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God.
Jesus told his disciples:
"Go and preach the good news to everyone in the world.
Anyone who believes me and is baptised will be saved.
But anyone who refuses to believe me will be condemned.
"Everyone who believes me will be able to do wonderful things.
By using my name they will force out demons,
and they will speak new languages.
They will handle snakes and will drink poison and not be hurt.
They will also heal sick people by placing their hands on them."
After the Lord Jesus had said these things to the disciples,
he was taken back up to heaven
where he sat down at the right side of God.
Then the disciples left and preached everywhere.
The Lord was with them,
and the miracles they worked proved that their message was true.
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Reflecting on the Gospel - discussion
It can be very important whom we sit next to. Can you think of a time when there was a discussion, or maybe even an argument, about where people were going to sit. Talk about why it might be important to a person to sit in a particular place.
Jesus has a place of honour seated at God’s right hand. Jesus continues to help us from his place in heaven and he has the power to help us do important things.
PENTECOST SUNDAY
“As the Father sent me, so I send you. Receive the Holy Spirit.”
Year B | Sunday 23 May | white
Preparing to hear God's word
If you go into a church this weekend, you will notice that the colours have changed!
Things which were white for Easter are now red for Pentecost. The priest will be wearing red too.
What does the colour red make you think of?
The Gospel story
Today we are going to listen to a reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
It tells the story of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came.
Jesus’ friends were together in one room, when they heard a sound like a huge wind. A tongue of fire came and rested above each person. The disciples started speaking different languages so that all the people could understand the wonderful things that God had done.
The Gospel
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles 2:1-8, 11
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak different languages.
On the day of Pentecost
all the Lord's followers were together in one place.
Suddenly there was a noise from heaven like the sound of a mighty wind!
It filled the house where they were meeting.
Then they saw what looked like fiery tongues moving in all directions,
and a tongue came and settled on each person there.
The Holy Spirit took control of everyone, and they began speaking
whatever languages the Spirit let them speak.
Many religious Jews from every country in the world were living in Jerusalem.
And when they heard this noise, a crowd gathered.
But they were surprised, because they were hearing everything in their own languages.
They were excited and amazed, and said:
"Don't all these who are speaking come from Galilee?
Then why do we each hear them speaking our very own languages?
Some of us were born Jews, and others of us have chosen to be Jews.
Yet we all hear them using our own languages to tell the wonderful things God has done."
The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Reflecting on the Gospel - discussion
Pentecost is known as the birthday of the Church. It is the day when Jesus sent his Holy Spirit to be with the disciples, just as he said he would. When the disciples started speaking different languages, they told all the people about Jesus and over 3000 people were baptised that day!
So Pentecost was start, or the birth, of the Church.
What do you do in your family to celebrate a birthday?
