LANGUAGES WEEK
MS MARIA SALVO - LANGUAGES DOMAIN LEADER
It was time to celebrate languages this week at St Mary MacKillop College!
Activities this week were centred around Italian and Japanese themes. The week began with a Homeroom Quiz focusing on general knowledge of both languages. The winner will be announced at Assembly on Friday.
Monday lunchtime, students volunteered to create a chalk mural on the footpath outside Rooms 6 and 7 to promote languages in many different ways. Students were creative and filled the pathway with designs representing both Italian and Japanese.
On Tuesday, students watched a Simpsons episode on travelling to Japan.
On Wednesday, Years 9 and 10 Italian students were invited to the Swan Hill Library to perform nursery rhymes and songs in Italian for toddlers in a weekly session called “Move and Groove”. This was a huge success, especially when our students presented the children with Pinocchio puppets they created. The students also led storytime with a Pinocchio story.
In the LRC at lunchtime, students decorated Koi fish, Japanese fans and Italian masks and on Thursday students attended a session on singing songs in both Italian and Japanese. In classes, students also worked on creating masterpieces using pasta in its many shapes and forms.
Such a successful week! Thank you to the Languages staff and students for participating.
