HUMANITIES WEEK

MS MONIQUE WATT - HUMANITIES DOMAIN LEADER

It was a busy week last week with many Humanities Week activities occurring. On Tuesday, Year 8 students were taken back into Medieval Times with a full day of amazing sessions. Students had the opportunity to joust with each other, dress up in costumes from the period and see how crime and punishment was dealt with.  These sessions were entertaining and are a great lead in for students learning about Medieval Europe in Humanities this term.

There were a number of quizzes throughout the week focussing on History, Geography or Business related topics. Homerooms and individual students competed against each other for the chance to win prizes.

Thursday was eventful with the Annual Market Day. Students from the Money Markets and Citizenships classes ran their small businesses. Students were treated to foods such as chocolate cake, waffles, sausages, hot dogs, egg and bacon rolls, pancakes, pizza and wedges, as well as chocolate gift bags. This activity gave students the opportunity to see what it is like to run a small business. All of the profits will be donated to various charities. Well done to these Year 9 students.

On Friday students from the Year 9 History class organised a very moving Anzac Day ceremony. Students were reverent when attending this service. The service included a reflection from former student Corporal Lisa Miceli who has been in the Army since 2010. The service also acknowledged the three students who will be leaving for the Armed Forces this year, with a special blessing for Max Sewell who leaves the College this week to join the Army.

Many thanks to all involved in making Humanities week a success!
