Lunchtime Activities/STEM Club

STEM Club

STEM Club ran an experiment on Tuesday (March 30) last term with 10 participants and we created Rainbow Fizz in a test tube. Students learnt more about Acids and Bases and using pH as a way of measuring the strength of an Acid or Base. It was an interesting and educational experience for many, and we are looking forward to future sessions!

STEM Club now runs every Tuesday lunchtime in room 21 and we welcome all students who are passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths to have fun with exciting STEM-related activities!

International Girls in ICT Day (27 April)

In celebration of International Girls in ICT Day, LifeJourney held a special webinar in partnership with Cisco Systems Australia that featured three inspiring speakers:

·       Corien Vermaak, Cyber Security Specialist at Cisco Systems Australia

·       Tamara Baker, Year 11 Student from Melbourne Girls Grammar

·       Dr Muneera Bano, Lecturer in Software Engineering at Deakin University

They each spoke about their passions for different aspects of digital technology, especially as women in an industry dominated by men.

There was particular mention about the integration of Artificial Intelligence into highly sought-after careers in law, medicine, accounting and many more.

For example, many surgeons are also using artificial layers of intelligence to help with diagnosis and determining prognosis. Furthermore, there is a much higher reliance on computers and AI robots to help with bookkeeping as it is much quicker to automate and compute than it is for any human eye.

Digital technology has been invaluable to many of us during the COVID-19 pandemic - helping us stay connected amidst unprecedented times. More importantly, it is crucial in addressing many pressing global issues we face today, especially access to education for women in developing countries where so many girls are denied the education opportunities they deserve.

They encourage girls to consider a career in ICT and become part of the solution this world needs.
