We are very excited to share that our school was successful in applying for the Music in Schools – DUET Teacher Mentoring Program for 2021. The Song Room, in partnership with the Department, will be working with Chris and Carla in Term 2 and 3 to continue to build teacher confidence and capability in delivering quality music education programs. Our school will also receive funding of $5,000 to purchase music education resources.

District Cross Country Years 3 to 6

Congratulations to those students who represented our school at District Cross Country today. We had 58 students attend the event at Princes Park. We are extremely proud of every student who participated in the event.

Working Bees This Week

Thank you to the wonderful parents and carers who attended yesterday’s twilight Working Bee. We managed to shovel a large amount of sand into the sand pit along with soft fall under the playground. Here’s hoping that we have beautiful weather for the Working Bee on Sunday 2 May. This Working Bee will be held from 9:00am-12:00pm. We will be completing a number of jobs around the grounds and would love to see our parents come along. It's expected to be a beautiful day on Sunday - just the weather for getting outside. If you are able to come for all or part of the morning, please complete the form at this link or contact the school office:

Flu Shots for Staff

Yesterday afternoon, many of our school staff received their flu shot onsite. This is the first year that we have offered flu shots for staff and see this initiative as an investment during these uncertain times. Unfortunately in this current climate, if a staff member presents as unwell they must stay at home. If they are showing one or more symptoms of COVID19, they must stay at home and be tested as soon as practicable.

School Council News

Outdoor Learning Space Update  - Official Opening Ceremony Friday 14 May at 2:30pm

We now have a confirmed date for the Official Opening Ceremony for our outdoor learning space. On Friday 14 May at 2:30pm, we will be conducting a School Assembly including an Official Opening Ceremony with Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony conducted by a Wurundjeri Tribe Council Elder. We have also been able to book in Bruce Pascoe and Sheena Watt MP, Member for Northern Metropolitan Region, to attend. We are also in the process of sending out further invitations for the event.

We have been in correspondence with the Wurundjeri Tribe Council for assistance with naming the Outdoor Learning Space in the Woi wurrung language. We have also asked for recommendations for names for our two school buildings based on the local iconic species. As soon as we have heard back from Wurundjeri Elder, Aunty Gail, we will share her feedback with the school community.

Whole School Picnic Friday 14 May after Opening Ceremony of for the Outdoor Learning Space

We would like to invite all CNPS Families to stay at school at the conclusion of the Assembly and Ceremony to have an afternoon picnic on the school grounds. Our school community has been missing community events over the past 12 months, including two of our Lee Street Fetes.

Annual General Meeting - Wednesday 19 May at 6:00pm

On Wednesday 19 May, we will be conducting the school’s Annual General Meeting. Within this meeting we will present the 2020 Annual Report to the School Community and outline the school self evaluation and school review process leading up to our next School Review in 2022. We will be conducting the meeting on Zoom and will communicate the Zoom link at a closer date.

Fundraising and Community Engagement

Mothers Day/Special Persons Stall - Donations Requested

We will be holding a Mothers Day/Special Persons Stall on Friday 7 May and we are looking for items to sell on the day. If you are able to donate any small, cheap and/or decent secondhand items, that would be great!  We are aiming to have enough items for each child to be able to make a purchase.

There is a box under the office window to place the donated goods in, starting from tomorrow. Some ideas for donations are: cards, books, stationery, jewellery, plants, mugs, chocolates, scarves, etc.

Thanks so much for your help!

Gaby (on behalf of the Fundraising and Community Engagement Sub-committee)

Professional Learning - Writing

Yesterday our teaching staff worked together to reflect on the work and learning that they achieved last week with Literacy Consultant, Lisa Keskinen. We are already seeing a refreshed approach to teaching Writing as a direct result of the Curriculum Day last week. In the last week of term, staff will meet together for a ‘Sharing of Best Practice’ professional learning session.
