TERM 4 EXCURSION

Room 3,4 and 5 went on an excursion to The Road Safety School and The Old Adelaide Gaol. We loved everything about this excursion, even the bus ride. We rode our scooters at the Safety school and then went into the gaol for a tour and a history chat. We found out that the gaol is one of the oldest remaining colonial public buildings in Adelaide at 147 years old. There have been 300,000 prisoners that have passed through the gaol. Prisoners had to stay in their small cells for 14 hours a day. The gaol closed to prisoners in early 1980s. We had a lot of fun exploring what it would’ve been like to be a prisoner in the olden days.

Did you know that some of our Year 6/7 students celebrated the end of the year by enjoying a dinner at Niijumaru Japanese Restaurant?

We were lucky enough to enjoy some traditional and very delicious Japanese food. The students received a selection of foods to try including a variety of sushi, gyoza dumplings, tempura vegetables and rice.

Many students mastered the art of using chopsticks and I was impressed with the persistence of those that wouldn't give up!

The students completed a 'Japanese Quiz Challenge' in their groups, and they had lots of opportunities to share their language knowledge. When a correct answer earns you a chocolate Japanese Pocky stick to go with your ice cream dessert... everyone wants to try! 🙂

A fantastic time was had by all and a big thank you to Dale, Lola, Marley and Michelle who came along with us!

Kitto's PE News

Well, this is the last time I’ll be writing the WBPS Newsletter, and it certainly comes with some heavy emotions. I have absolutely loved my time teaching PE and organising various sporting carnivals for our wonderful group of students. Thank you to all the staff and parents who have been incredibly supportive to provide our students with these experiences.

The ongoing support from everyone has been truly appreciated, and the fact our students have embraced every opportunity and participated in good spirit made this year unforgettable.

A special mention to the year 6/7s who have been fantastic leaders and represented the school with pride. They have been hard working, respectful and encouraging to the rest of the school. I wish them all the best in the coming years ahead.

With too many highlights to mention from 2021, I will finish with a quick summary of the past few weeks of PE which included a mixture of the fun we have had participating in tag rugby, taekwondo, and hockey golf.

Thanks for having me West Beach Primary School!

Cheers,

Science News

Fizzy wizz fizz is not just a thing of the past! The Year 6/7 students made a sherbert recipe in Science after learning about mixtures and solutions. They then had to work out how to create the best sherbert mixture by altering the recipe to suit their their individual taste. It was interactive, fun and very tasty!

Year 1 EALD Creative Writing

The Year 1 EALD (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) group have created their own “Machine” prose, modelled on “Harrison the Helicopter” a poem we read and discussed in class.

The foci of their prose included-

· Personification- bringing an inanimate object to life by giving it personal characteristics

· Repetition of the character’s name throughout the prose

· Use of interesting and exciting action words/verbs

· Including sound words / onomatopoeia
