Physical Education

At Saltwater College, all students will be provided with the opportunity to develop life-long participation in healthy activity and sport, by being provided with positive and enjoyable experiences in a variety of activities and learning environments, which are developmentally appropriate. To enable students to achieve this goal, they learn the fundamental skills of locomotion, ball control, throwing, tracking, kicking, and striking

The Physical Education program aims to support, foster, and develop students to reach their maximal abilities. The key outcome is to educate (by providing knowledge, skills, and values), the students to develop a positive and outstanding attitude towards a fit and healthy lifestyle. A holistic approach is used, whereby individuals develop physically, socially, and mentally.

Spanish

Spanish is one of the specialist subjects offered as part of Saltwater College's curriculum. All children from Prep through to Grade 6 participate in a 50-minute lesson of Spanish each week. The emphasis of the program is on developing the child’s ability to communicate in the Spanish language as well as ensuring that the child develops intercultural knowledge and language awareness. This is achieved through bilingual stories being shared and re-enacted and students actively learning vocabulary and phrases – through gestures, songs, games, stories, and computer programs and websites.

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts program provides students with an opportunity to develop their skills in drawing, painting, and sculpture. Students plan, make and respond to artwork. They use a variety of techniques to express ideas and make decisions about how their work will be displayed. Students are exposed to a variety of artists from around the world and they discuss the culture and context that inspired the artwork. Students develop their knowledge of colour wheels, colour mixing, shading and tones, portraits and landscapes, art history, perspective and the elements of art.

Creativity is encouraged and celebrated. Artwork is proudly shared at school assemblies, in the Office Foyer, Gymnasium, and throughout classrooms. Students have the opportunity to submit their artwork to a variety of competitions.

Robotics

Through our specialist classes in Digital Technologies, students develop their knowledge and understanding of the digital world. Students acquire a deep knowledge and understanding of digital systems, data and information and the processes associated with creating digital solutions so they can take up an active role in meeting current and future needs. Students have access to a range of devices and robotics which develop their understanding of computer programming and enable them to create their own digital solutions. Students also develop the ICT skills that enable them to use technology to support their learning in the classroom.

Saltwater College to participate in Industry Led Coding Programme

Computing Professionals Needed

We are proud to announce that Saltwater College will be implementing the prestigious industry-led coding programme ‘CS in Schools’ to a cohort of students in 2022.

The CS in Schools programme is creating sustainable change in Australian digital technology education. It helps schools create relevant and meaningful digi-tech education by building industry connections, developing teacher confidence, and providing a complete digi-tech pathway for all secondary students.

If you are a computing professional and would like to volunteer in one of our classrooms, CS in Schools is actively recruiting volunteer computing professionals to support our school. You can learn more about volunteering at https://csinschools.com/volunteer/ and you can express interest at https://csinschools.com/apply/.
