Junior Class - Mrs Creek

This week our shared story is a sequel to ‘Handa’s Surprise’ from last week. It is titled ‘Handa’s Hen’. We get introduced to Mondi the hen on the very first page. However, when it is breakfast time, she is nowhere to be found. So Handa and her friend Akeyo search all sorts of places. It is also a counting book with creatures from 1-10. Finally we find out the reason why Mondi goes missing. She has ten cute chicks! The students have chorused repeating phrases, counted creatures and identified all the places the two girls go searching.

Our spelling foci this week are rhyming words, color words.

For writing, we have been considering how to replace nouns in a sentence with a pronoun. Such as she, he, they, we, and it.

During Mathematics, making groups, sharing between groups and counting sequences continue to be developed.

We pray to understand what it means to be generous of heart. To be able to share what you have with others, has been reflected upon.

And this week starts the first of our Kinder Transition  Fridays. We are so excited.

Middle Class - Miss Williams

This week the middle class has been focusing on a scaffolding literacy process and cycle for reading and writing. We are focusing on the book Dog Lost and have analysed two sentences from the book. We have looked at the type of language the sentences provide us with and have drawn pictures to match the sentence. We have then drawn another picture to match a sentence we have created when we leave words out of the sentence of phrases.

In Maths both the Year 2s and Year 3s have been focusing on interpreting simple maps and constructing and interpreting graphs. As we come to the end of our Stepping Stone modules we are now beginning to move into more individualised maths for the learning needs of each student.

Senior Class - Ms Murphy

We have had a very interesting week in the Senior class with students really getting their teeth stuck into looking at themes around War, the Armed Forces and Remembrance Day. There has been a lot of discussion around the role of Service Men and Women from across the world and how the Great War, World War II, Vietnam War and the Afghanistan Wars have affected those who fought in battle and those who have been persecuted by War. I have been absolutely amazed at the thirst for history shown by the Seniors and the maturity by which they have taken on these points of history which are often very confronting. Many of us know someone or have had someone in our families who have taken the brave role of fighting for our country and the freedoms of others. Students have created profiles of a soldier by accessing their pre-existing knowledge and understanding how to use and access databases to research about Service Men and Women. We have spent some time developing a ‘skit’ and rehearsing our ideas so that we were able to perform at this week's Assembly.

The Ode

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them."

For the Fallen - Laurence Binyon
